Netflix\u2019s spicy historical drama \u201cThe Crown\u201d is polishing \u2014 not tarnishing \u2014 the royal family\u2019s reputation, a new poll shows. <\/p>\n

More than a third of the show\u2019s viewers \u2014 35% \u2013told the polling firm Focaldata that their opinion of the British monarchy improved \u201ca bit\u201d or \u201ca lot,\u201d The Sunday Times of London reported. <\/p>\n

And 42% didn\u2019t feel any differently about the family, even after watching Season 4, released just last month. A few of the episodes detail Princess Diana\u2019s loneliness and Prince Charles\u2019 affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. Charles and Camilla married in 2005.<\/p>\n

However, 23% told pollsters that their impression worsened \u2014 18% by \u201ca bit\u201d and 5% by \u201ca lot.\u201d <\/p>\n

Those viewers seem to be the ones who the royals fear the most. <\/p>\n

Charles and Camila\u2019s official Twitter<\/a> account turned off comments<\/a> on a post about charity work after users replied with hateful jabs about the couple\u2019s treatment of Diana.<\/p>\n

As for the future king, 39% viewers still have the same opinion of him as they did before, while 34% think better of him. <\/p>\n

Only Prince Andrew, whose alleged penchant for pedophilia was finally explored in Season 4, had consistently negative ratings. <\/p>\n

The UK government wants the streaming service to remind viewers that the show is only loosely based on real-life events. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that,\u201d said Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden. \u201cWithout this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.\u201d <\/p>\n

Helena Bonham Carter, who portrays Princess Margaret, agrees: <\/a>\u201cIt is dramatized. I do feel very strongly, because I think we have a moral responsibility to say, \u2018Hang on, guys, this is not \u2026 it\u2019s not a drama-doc, we\u2019re making a drama.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
