What was expected and projected for an entire week became official Sunday afternoon, when Daniel Jones was one of the inactive players for the Giants for their game<\/a> against the Seahawks at Lumen Field.<\/p>\n

Colt McCoy, the 34-year old backup, was set to make his first start for the Giants, winners of three consecutive games before heading into this Week 13 meeting with the first-place Seahawks. McCoy was making his first start in 14 months and only his fourth start since 2014. Clayton Thorson, elevated off the practice squad, was to serve as the backup quarterback. Thorson, a 2019 fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles out of Northwestern, has never app<\/a>eared in an NFL game.<\/p>\n

Jones was forced out of last week\u2019s 19-17 victory in Cincinnati after straining his right hamstring on a seven-yard run in the third quarter. He was mostly off the practice field in the days leading up to the game in Seattle, working on the side with trainers. The Giants are encouraged Jones should be able to return for the next game, Dec. 13 against the Cardinals at MetLife Stadium, given how he was able to move around this past week.<\/p>\n

There was no real chance of Jones playing against the Seahawks, as he could not pass the two-pronged test head coach Joe Judge gives to all injured players. Would he make the injury worse if he played and could he protect himself on the field? Jones definitely could exacerbate the hamstring issue if he returned too quickly and, with the strain decreasing the mobility he needs, Jones would be a sitting duck in the pocket and could not use his legs to escape trouble.<\/p>\n

This is the third game Jones has missed because of injury. He was forced to sit out two games as a rookie in 2019 with a high ankle sprain.<\/p>\n

The other Giants inactives: WR Dante Pettis, ILB T.J. Brunson, OT Kyle Murphy, OT Jackson Barton, DE R.J. McIntosh and OLB Trent Harris.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
