When you send an email from your Gmail account, your display name (along with other information) will be shown to the recipient. You can change the display name associated with your Gmail account in a few steps. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

You can only change the name on your Gmail account on a desktop browser. You can\u2019t use the Gmail mobile app<\/a> on Android, iPhone, or iPad to change your name.<\/p>\n

To change the name on your Gmail account, log in to your account through Gmail\u2019s website<\/a>\u00a0on your desktop browser. Once logged in, click the gear icon to open the \u201cSettings\u201d menu.<\/p>\n

Next, select \u201cSee All Settings\u201d at the top of the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll now be in the \u201cGeneral<\/a>\u201d tab of Gmail\u2019s Settings menu. Click the \u201cAccounts and Import\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

In the \u201cSend Mail As\u201d section, you\u2019ll see your email address and the display name associated with that address. Click the \u201cEdit Info\u201d button to change your display name.<\/p>\n

A new window will appear. Here, you can change your display name by clicking the bubble next to the text box and then typing the new display name in that text box. Click \u201cSave Changes\u201d to apply the change.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll now see the newly entered display name next to the \u201cSend Mail As\u201d section in Gmail\u2019s settings menu.<\/p>\n

The next time you send an email, your new display name will be shown to the recipient.<\/p>\n\n

While Google allows you to change your display name, you can\u2019t actually change your username (which is different than your display name) or your email address. But if you really need a new email address, you can always migrate your Google account to a new one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
