Today, we\u2019re watching a video on Mamoru Oshii\u2019s 1985 film Angel\u2019s Egg.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/><em><strong>Angel\u2019s Egg<\/strong><\/em> feels like a kind of half-remembered nightmare. The kind of dream that lingers in the back of your mind for weeks. It is an ink-blot test of religious motifs, existential philosophy, and suggestive world-building that resists divination while remaining hauntingly and inescapably enigmatic.<\/p>\n<p>The film takes place in a dying land where monstrous skeletons slump quietly in bell towers while enormous fish-shaped shadows swirl through the city streets. We follow an unnamed girl as she shepherds an enormous (and mysterious) egg through a decrepit, war-torn city. She meets a young soldier who takes an interest in her\u2026and her precious cargo.<\/p>\n<p><em>Angel\u2019s Egg <\/em>was a non-commercial collaboration between the equally legendary animation director <strong>Mamoru Oshii<\/strong> and artist <strong>Yoshitaka Amano<\/strong> \u2014 best known to our readers, perhaps, for his work on the <em>Final Fantasy <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>. Since it\u2019s cold reception in 1985, the film has been hailed as one of the great artistic achievements of both <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/anime-manga\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"6\" title=\"Anime || Manga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anime<\/a> and symbolist filmmaking.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t already guessed, the film is somewhat difficult to understand. Prior to the project\u2019s production, Oschii lost his faith. And much of that shaken world-view and fervent search for purpose colors <em>Angel\u2019s Egg<\/em>. And yet, even Oschii claims to not know what the film is really about. <\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, as the video essay below puts it, even when you dig deeper, <em>Angel\u2019s Egg<\/em> doesn\u2019t become clearer so much as\u2026bigger.
