The co-owner of Staten Island\u2019s rogue \u201cAutonomous Zone\u201d bar was freed from custody Sunday \u2014 despite being hit with 10 charges for allegedly driving into a sheriff\u2019s sergeant trying to arrest him for illegally staying open.<\/p>\n

Danny Presti, co-owner of Mac\u2019s Public House, was arrested just after midnight Sunday for allegedly driving a new turquoise Jeep into 30-year-old New York City Sheriff sergeant Kenneth Matos \u2014 breaking his legs and leaving him clinging to the hood for around 300 feet before being stopped by a sheriff\u2019s car.<\/p>\n

The bar owner plowed into the officer \u201cintentionally and with depraved indifference to human life,\u201d his charge sheet shows \u2014 leaving the officer in \u201csubstantial pain\u201d and in \u201cfear for his physical safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old did so to escape being busted for again serving customers at the Grant City bar in defiance of COVID-19 orders \u2014 fleeing after the officers shouted \u201cPresti!\u201d to stop him, the documents say.<\/p>\n

Presti \u2014 who had been arrested earlier in the week for keeping his bar open \u2014 was hit with 10 charges Sunday, including third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury, menacing, reckless driving, resisting arrest and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.<\/p>\n

He was arraigned from inside Staten Island\u2019s 122nd Precinct and released on his own recognizance despite the slew of serious charges.<\/p>\n

It was unclear why he was released \u2014 as the assault rap is bail-eligible. The Staten Island DA\u2019s office did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n

A charging document alleges that the bar owner \u201cdrove with Sgt. Matos on the hood of his motor vehicle down South Railroad Avenue, turned left onto Lincoln Avenue, and made another left onto North Railroad before being stopped by a sheriff\u2019s motor vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officer suffered fractured bones, including both tibias, sources told The Post.<\/p>\n

Mac\u2019s bar has become a center point for recent protests against government-ordered lockdowns, repeatedly serving customers in rebellion against orders not to do so.<\/p>\n

Mac\u2019s remained defiant Sunday \u2014 accusing the officers of hiding \u201clike snakes in the grass\u201d to\u00a0yet again bust\u00a0its outspoken co-owner.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not back down! You have not scared us!! The world is watching and it\u2019s time for everyone to wake up!\u201d the bar wrote in a since-deleted Facebook<\/a> update early Sunday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
