“#There Might Be Seven More Kingsman Sequels, For Some Reason \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Someone, somewhere, at some point, thought it was a good idea to make a whole\u00a0Kingsman<\/em><\/strong> franchise, with multiple sequels and prequels. And while the prequel film\u00a0The King\u2019s Man<\/em><\/strong> has yet to open, franchise helmer\u00a0Matthew Vaughn<\/strong> is already thinking ahead.\u00a0Way<\/em> ahead. Vaughn reportedly has plans for \u201csomething like seven more\u00a0Kingsman<\/em>\u00a0films.\u201d Which raises one question: Why?<\/p>\n

Look, I know that the\u00a0Kingsman<\/em> movies<\/a> have their fans, but I remain utterly perplexed by the series. I thought the infamous church shootout<\/a> scene in the first film,\u00a0Kingsman: The Secret Service<\/em><\/strong>, was entertaining. Beyond that, though, the series leaves me cold \u2013 especially the second film,\u00a0Kingsman: The Golden Circle<\/em><\/strong>, which was all kinds of bad. But clearly, there\u2019s an audience for these flicks, which is why production company Marv keeps making them. A prequel,\u00a0The King\u2019s Man<\/em>, was supposed to open this year but got pushed to 2021 due to the coronavirus. And franchise player Taron Egerton<\/strong> says there\u2019s already a script<\/a> for a direct\u00a0Golden Circle<\/em> sequel.
\nBut why stop there? According to Deadline,\u00a0Marv Group CEO Zygi Kamasa<\/strong> told the Winston Baker UK Finance Summit late last week that director Matthew Vaughn is planning \u201csomething like seven more Kingsman films.\u201d Kamasa added: \u201cWe want to grow the business and the output. We have a\u00a0Kingsman<\/em>\u00a0TV series in the works and there are two-three other franchises that are being developed alongside the\u00a0Kingsman<\/em>\u00a0world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Kingsman<\/em> film series is based on the comic series created by\u00a0Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. The first film follows\u00a0Gary \u201cEggsy\u201d Unwin (Taron Egerton), who gets recruited into a secret spy organization by super-spy\u00a0Harry Hart (Colin Firth<\/strong>). The second film keeps the story going and adds all sorts of insane bullshit, including an entire subplot about Elton John. It\u2019s bad. Then there\u2019s the upcoming prequel\u00a0The King\u2019s Man<\/em>, which goes back in time to the early days of the Kingsman. It\u2019s currently scheduled to hit theaters on\u00a0February 12, 2021.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a third (well, technically fourth) film being planned. Vaughn said that sequel would be \u201cthe conclusion of the Harry Hart\u2013Eggsy relationship,\u201d adding: \u201cThe next movie is what happens to these characters [after the events of The Golden Circle<\/em>]. They\u2019re definitely not going to be doing what you\u2019ve seen them do before.\u201d Like I said \u2013 I know these films have their fans. But even if you\u2019re one of them, you have to admit that the idea of adding\u00a0seven<\/em> more movies to this series is pushing it. Just a wee bit.<\/p>\n
