\u200bProgressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was named \u201cemployee of the month\u201d at Goya Foods after sales spiked following her calls to boycott the company\u2019s products, CEO Robert Unanue said Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen she boycotted us, our sales actually increased 1,000 percent,\u201d Robert Unanue said on the \u201cMichael Berry Show.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n

\u201cSo we gave her an honorary, we never were able to hand it to her, but she got employee of the month for bringing attention to Goya and our adobo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unanue said the New York Democrat\u2019s comments allowed the company to expand its reach to \u201cso many new people,\u201d while holding onto its base of customers.<\/p>\n

Ocasio-Cortez called for a boycott after Unanue praised President Trump at a White House event in July.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder,\u201d Unanue said after the president signed an executive order on the \u201cWhite House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n

His comments were too much for Ocasio-Cortez.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh look, it\u2019s the sound of me Googling \u2018how to make your own Adobo,\u2019\u201d tweeted AOC<\/a>, who is of Puerto Rican descent, referring to one of Goya\u2019s popular seasonings.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet yourself friends like these: this tweet wasn\u2019t up for TWO MINUTES when my friend hit me up with the recipe. (Their note: \u2018the ginger is controversial, but worth it\u2019),\u201d she added, retweeting a friend\u2019s adobo recipe.<\/p>\n

Unanue said on the radio show that it\u2019s \u201cinteresting\u201d to see Ocasio-Cortez calling to boycott Goya and \u201cgo against her own people \u2026 to go against people of her own Latin culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo some extent I can understand AOC. She\u2019s young, she\u2019s naive, she doesn\u2019t get it. But you\u2019ve got someone like [Senator Bernie] Sanders, who\u2019s older than us \u2026 other than me, who still doesn\u2019t get it,\u201d he continued.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
