For Kate Black, her dream vacation isn\u2019t lounging on a tropical beach or exploring a chic European capital. It\u2019s more like \u2026 a Hallmark holiday movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m obsessed with Hallmark everything,\u201d said the New Brunswick, NJ-based 30-year-old, who spoke to The Post wearing a Hallmark Christmas sweater. \u201cI always joke with my husband \u2014 but he knows I\u2019m serious \u2014 about taking Hallmark-style getaways.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fans of the cable channel\u2019s simple, heartwarming stories are seeking out the kind of quaint locales that might serve as the setting for a Christmas movie. For a growing number of devotees, it\u2019s not enough to watch characters enjoy snuggly sleigh rides and shop at old-fashioned holiday markets, both of which are fixtures of Hallmark\u2019s endless supply of Yuletide-theme<\/a>d programming. Instead, they want to experience the over-the-top seasonal splendor for themselves.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Black said that this time of year, she watches about three Hallmark movies<\/a> a week, and often lets the channel buzz in the background. But last winter, she told her husband, Ben, that she was ready to take her relationship with the brand one step further.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They settled on a trip<\/a> to Boothbay, Maine, for its resemblance to places she\u2019d seen in Hallmark movies. When she scrolled through pictures of the cute, coastal town, she knew: \u201cI was like, \u2018Wow, this is like my dream Hallmark vacation.\u2019\u201d With its botanical garden and seasonal \u201cNorth Pole Express\u201d train ride, it didn\u2019t disappoint. Nor did a side trip to nearby Freeport: \u201cThey had live reindeer!\u201d Black said of the winter wonderland. <\/p>\n

Olivia Castle\u2019s favorite movies include Hallmark\u2019s \u201cChristmas Town\u201d and \u201cChristmas Cookies,\u201d both of which always get her into the holiday spirit. \u201cSometimes they can be a little cheesy, but I think that\u2019s what gives them their charm,\u201d said the 26-year-old, who is based in Albany. <\/p>\n

Most Hallmark movies are filmed in snowy Canada, and that\u2019s what drew Castle to Quebec City last winter. There, she and boyfriend Willber hit the German Christmas markets, a Nordic spa, and went on the famous toboggan sleigh that overlooks the historic hotel Ch\u00e2teau Frontenac and the St. Lawrence river. \u201cIt was so romantic,\u201d said Castle. \u201cWhile we were walking through Old Quebec it started snowing, exactly like something in a Hallmark movie.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Joan Cummings, last year\u2019s Hallmark-inspired vacation to Salzburg, Austria, fulfilled a lifelong fantasy for her: The 36-year-old and her husband took an unforgettable village sleigh ride, complete with horses wearing bells on their harnesses that \u201cjingled the entire way,\u201d said the Minneapolis native, who works in marketing.<\/p>\n

The best part? \u201cThe driver who picked us up for our sleigh ride was named Leopold, which is the name of the prince in the Hallmark movie \u2018A Royal Christmas,’\u201d said Cummings.<\/p>\n

But for one fan, a brief trip wasn\u2019t going to be enough to fulfill her desire for quaint surroundings.<\/p>\n

Four years ago, Leah Spellman picked up and moved from Florida to Alexandria, Va. \u201cI chose to live there because of that Hallmark-like feel,\u201d Spellman said.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s charmed by the city\u2019s King Street and its sweet traditions, including the Scottish Christmas Walk parade, where Santa plays the bagpipes. \u201cSmall-town parades and events are a signature of Hallmark movies,\u201d said Spellman.<\/p>\n

Beyond just the settings and set pieces, Hallmark\u2019s heroines have also inspired her. <\/p>\n

Spellman \u2014 who worked for Alexandria\u2019s tourism board before relocating again this June, to Columbus, Ohio, for a university job \u2014 said she loves the idea of the big-city career gal who trades it all in for a simpler life, and saw plenty of that in her former town. \u201cSo many of the independent boutiques are owned by women, many who left successful careers to pursue their passion.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
