The report <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/messari.io\/pdf\/messari-report-crypto-theses-for-2021.pdf\">refers<\/a> to XRP as \u201ctoxic waste,\u201d with Selkis calling Bitcoin (BTC) forks, Stellar Lumens (XLM) and Litecoin (LTC) \u201cpiles of s&#8212;.\u201d The report said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese are toxic assets propped up by regulatory capture, and they go against everything that got me into crypto.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bitstamp has removed the original tweet it posted following the report\u2019s publication on Dec. 8, and referred to parts of the \u201clanguage and content\u201d in the report as inconsistent with the firm\u2019s values. The firm added that it believed some aspects were disrespectful towards \u201cpart of the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">2\/3 We did not complete a thorough enough review of the 130+ page report before it was published. This is on us, we should have done better.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bitstamp (@Bitstamp) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Bitstamp\/status\/1336760628246171649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 9, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In response, the Messari CEO said on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> he was <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twobitidiot\/status\/1336762557022015494\">going<\/a> for a humorous tone to keep readers engaged \u2014 the report is 134 pages long. However, he doubled down on his XRP views, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twobitidiot\/status\/1336794818396254212\">referring<\/a> to the token as \u201csnake oil\u201d and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twobitidiot\/status\/1336762861549481991\">adding<\/a> it was unlikely he would change his opinion in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the XRP army were <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly supportive of Bitstamp\u2019s statement, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DeutschlandXrp\/status\/1336763397971521537\">calling<\/a> it a \u201cquick and thoughtful reaction.\u201d The exchange may have been responding to Selkis\u2019 views on XRP, or the seemingly unprofessional language peppered throughout the report \u2014 the Messari CEO used \u201cf&#8212;\u201d five times, and \u201cs&#8212;\u201d nine times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBitstamp may have expected a more cerebral \u2018Pro\u2019 piece from our analysts vs. the yearly [company] hot takes,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twobitidiot\/status\/1336762557022015494\">said<\/a> Selkis. \u201cI don&#8217;t blame them for being caught off guard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In last year\u2019s \u201cCrypto Theses for 2020\u201d Selkis <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/messari.io\/pdf\/crypto-theses-for-2020.pdf\">said<\/a> he hated XRP but did not label the token as toxic. In fact, he said at the time that XRP had \u201ctremendous and surprising staying power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least one crypto figure stepped in to defend the Messari CEO. Samson Mow, the chief strategy officer at Blockstream. A well known Bitcoin maximalist and opponent of \u201cshitcoins\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Excellion\/status\/1336787469551878144?s=20\">argued<\/a> Selkis \u201cdid nothing wrong.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But Bitstamp\u2019s decision to cancel Selkis was supported by other Twitter users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImpressed to see you acknowledge customers&#8217; opinions on these matters Bitstamp,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SASchofield52\/status\/1336774495428816897\">said<\/a> Shane Schofield. \u201cWould hope, as a sponsor of Messari, you could remind them that everyone has biases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time the Messari CEO has been on the receiving end of attacks by the XRP army.
