\u00a0Alphabet\u2019s\u00a0Google\u00a0will lift its temporary ban on election-related advertisements on Thursday, it said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s pause of election\u00a0ads, which came into effect after polls closed in the US presidential election Nov. 3, was one of its measures to combat misinformation and other abuses on its site.<\/p>\n

It was part of its \u201csensitive events\u201d policy, which seeks to prohibit content that potentially capitalizes on events like public health emergencies or natural disasters.<\/p>\n

The company said in an email to advertisers seen by Reuters that \u201cwe no longer consider the post-election period to be a sensitive event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Major online platforms have been under pressure to police misinformation about the election on their sites, which continued to proliferate on social media<\/a> after Election Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will still rigorously enforce our\u00a0ads\u00a0policies, which strictly prohibit demonstrably false information that could significantly undermine trust in elections or the democratic process, among other forms of abuse,\u201d\u00a0Google\u00a0said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

When\u00a0Google\u00a0announced the ban to advertisers in September, a spokeswoman said it would be in place for a minimum of a week and that factors such as whether there was civil unrest would impact when it was lifted.<\/p>\n

Facebook, which introduced a temporary ban on\u00a0political\u00a0and issue\u00a0ads, said in November its post-election pause on\u00a0political\u00a0ads\u00a0would likely last another month. Facebook did not immediately reply to a Reuters question on when it would lift its ban.<\/p>\n

The extensions of the ad pauses raised concerns from campaigns and groups eager to reach voters for key Georgia races in January that will decide control of the Senate.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s ban app<\/a>lied to election-related\u00a0ads\u00a0on its ad-serving platforms, including its video-streaming service YouTube and\u00a0Google\u00a0Ads.<\/p>\n

Twitter banned\u00a0political\u00a0ads\u00a0last year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
