\n Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden has tapp<\/a>ed former Sen. Ted Kaufman, one of his closest confidantes, to lead his presidential transition team, a senior Biden campaign staffer confirmed to The Post.<\/p>\n

Kaufman will oversee Biden\u2019s early efforts that will focus on building the infrastructure of a transition team, he confirmed. A source familiar with transition plans said a fuller rollout of the team is expected sometime this fall, as is routine for general<\/a> election challengers facing an incumbent.<\/p>\n

Biden chose Kaufman to handle his vice presidential transition following his and former President Obama\u2019s 2008 election victory, though the two have a history going far beyond the vice presidency.<\/p>\n

Kaufman first met Biden when he volunteered for his Senate campaign in 1972. The two became friends and later confidantes, with Kaufman becoming Biden\u2019s chief of staff for almost two decades in the Senate.<\/p>\n

When Biden ascended to the vice presidency, it was Kaufman who filled his seat for the remainder of his term.<\/p>\n

He did not run for the seat after that term. It went on to be filled by Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) in a 2010 special election.<\/p>\n

Coons, according to Axios, is in the running for a larger cabinet position, should Biden beat Trump in November\u2019s general election.<\/p>\n

Also joining Kaufman\u2019s team are Yohannes Abraham and Avril Haines. Abraham, who will manage day-to-day operations, was a longtime Obama administration senior staffer. Haines, who will lead the national security and foreign policy team, served as deputy national security adviser and deputy CIA director under President Obama.<\/p>\n

Gautam Raghavan, chief of staff to Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.); Angela Ramirez, former Congressional Hispanic Caucus executive director; Evan Ryan, longtime adviser to Biden during the Obama-Biden administration; and Julie Siegel, a top legal adviser to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), will be joining the transition team as well.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
