David S\u00f8nsteb\u00f8 will no longer be a part of the Iota Foundation, a non-profit which he helped co-found and most recently co-chaired.<\/p>\n

According to an announcement from the Iota Foundation, the organization has<\/a> \u201cparted ways\u201d with S\u00f8nsteb\u00f8. It said it was a “unanimous decision, made by the Supervisory Board in the best interest of Iota and its ecosystem.”<\/p>\n

The announcement stated the project\u2019s interests have \u201cdiverged significantly\u201d with the co-founder\u2019s. His photo and bio have already been removed<\/a> from the Iota website and his email address bounces back. \u201cThe decision to part ways, while difficult, had to be made,\u201d said the Foundation, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were several instances where David’s actions were not aligned with what the Foundation stands for and who we aspire to be.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The board members added that : \u201cWhile this may come as a shock to many, you should recognize that the Foundation is willing to make difficult decisions to protect the interests of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

S\u00f8nsteb\u00f8 founded Iota in 2015, a project designed for the Internet of Things, and acted as co-founder and co-chair of the Iota Foundation since 2017. The board was unclear as to whether S\u00f8nsteb\u00f8 would stay involved in the project in any capacity, but added he would \u201cforever be a founder of Iota.\u201d<\/p>\n

The foundation has had its share of drama when it comes to organizational structure. In 2018, a series<\/a> of messages leaked from the firm\u2019s internal Slack channels discussed<\/a> two of the foundation\u2019s founders not being included on the board and suggested that current members step down to make room.<\/p>\n

Reaction to the news<\/a> on social media<\/a> today was general<\/a>ly supportive of the Foundation’s announcement.<\/p>\n

“This is in fact good news, some founders can\u2019t grow with the project,” said<\/a> Reddit user 4745454B<\/a>. “It looks like Iota is getting corporate ready in more ways than just tech.”<\/p>\n

\u201cI sold out of Iota a long time ago primarily because of how poor the leadership was,\u201d said<\/a> Redditor CalculatedLuck. \u201cSome of the communication that came from [S\u00f8nsteb\u00f8] was very unprofessional. This probably doesn\u2019t instill much confidence in people still HODLing.\u201d<\/p>\n

S\u00f8nsteb\u00f8 has something of a reputation in the crypto space for outbursts over any number of topics surrounding Iota and otherwise. He has even sarcastically admitted<\/a> that his behavior is \u201cdeeply alarming and unprofessional\u201d in a response to a Twitter user calling him out on social media:<\/p>\n
