A Canadian dad spent 30 painful hours getting a replica of his 8-year-old son\u2019s giant birthmark tattooed on his stomach \u2014 all to reassure the kid about his app<\/a>earance.<\/p>\n

Derek Prue Sr. of Stony Plain, Alberta, decided to get the tattoo after noticing his son, Derek, wanted to go into the swimming pool with a shirt on so he could cover his birthmark. <\/p>\n

\u201cI knew he was self-conscious about it,\u201d Prue told CBC News<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI saw how he was reacting, and it made me want to do it so that he wouldn\u2019t be the only one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prue got the ink work done at Juicy Quill Tattoo in Alberta, where it took owner and artist Tony Gibbert 30 hours and almost eight weeks to complete.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s amazing to be able to comfort your son like that,\u201d Gibbert said of Prue. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s more than just your kid seeing your name, or something \u2014 you get to actually change the way he feels about himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Derek, he said he was a bit suspicious when he mother began taking photos of his birthmark. Still, he never imagined what his father was up to \u2014 until he saw the look-alike tattoo.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was happy and I was a little confused,\u201d Derek told the outlet. \u201cI didn\u2019t know he was going to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Derek added he now feels comfortable taking his shirt off in the swimming pool, knowing his father is there to support him. <\/p>\n

\u201cNow we have the same marks for life,\u201d Prue told his son.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
