The central tenet of liberalism is no longer concrete \u201cchange.\u201d The point now is to perform your adherence to the dogma \u2014 marches, demonstrations and announcements acted out with the kind of fervor that proves to fellow devotees you really mean it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The latest in meaningless self-scourging progressive fashion statements is the \u201cland acknowledgment,\u201d in which a board meeting, or a speech, or a seminar, begins with the announcement that the US was established on stolen Native American land. The website of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artic.edu\/about-us\/land-acknowledgment\">Art Institute of Chicago announces, for instance, that the museum \u201cis located on the traditional unceded homelands of the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations. Many other tribes such as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac, and Fox also called this area home.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Land acknowledgments are becoming ubiquitous these days, especially among institutions run by the wokest of the woke, such as museums (the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fieldmuseum.org\/about\/land-acknowledgment\">Field Museum<\/a> of Chicago is another example) and colleges such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.northwestern.edu\/native-american-and-indigenous-peoples\/about\/Land%20Acknowledgement.html\">Northwestern<\/a>, various University of California <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/diversity.ucdavis.edu\/land-acknowledgement-statement\">campuses<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/landacknowledgment.colostate.edu\/\">Colorado State<\/a> \u2014 all of which include them on their websites.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day parade, for the first time ever, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/macys-thanksgiving-day-parade-indigenous-tribe-ritual-2020-11\">started this year<\/a> with a completely unnecessary land acknowledgment that Indians used to own the island of Manhattan. The blessing read, \u201cCreator and Ancestors, we honor you for all things. We honor the Lenape people of Manahatta. We honor all our relations because, long ago, we were here. Now we are here and we will always be here. And so it is.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" alt=\"American institutions like, Northwestern University, are now declaring their remorse for operating on land stolen from indigenous people. Four hundred years ago, this island became American property because we kicked out the British, the British acquired it fair and square from the Dutch through the Treaty of Westminster, and the Dutch acquired it lawfully by buying it from the Lenape Indians for 24 bucks. Manhattan may have been \u201ca steal\u201d in the sense that finding a mattress at Macy\u2019s for $2.99 is a steal, but that doesn\u2019t mean the island was literally stolen, it just means Peter Minuit outsmarted the Indians. If being taken advantage of voided a deal, the Mets wouldn\u2019t have to keep paying a dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointing third baseman named Bobby Bonilla who retired in 2001 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/sports\/mlb\/happy-bobby-bonilla-day-heres-why-the-mets-still-pay-over-a-million-each-year-to-a-guy-who-retired-decades-ago\/ar-BB16b4u8\">$1.2 million every year<\/a> through 2035.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Land acknowledgments, like Black Lives Matter marchers, don\u2019t actually do anything to help the people in question anyway but are just a way to signal one\u2019s devotion and virtue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At a teacher-training program for public school teachers in San Diego, a slide shown to classes solemnly announces, \u201cWe acknowledge that we meet on stolen land, taken from indigenous peoples. I am speaking to you from Kumeyaay land. One tribe, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sycuan_Band_of_the_Kumeyaay_Nation\">the Sycuan band<\/a>, has only 130 or so members yet one of its businesses, the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sddt.com\/News\/article.cfm?SourceCode=20111130crf%22%20%5Cl%20%22.X9EO-thKg2y\">Sycuan Tribal Development Corporation<\/a>, is worth about $200 million. Last year the tribe <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/entertainment\/casinos\/story\/2019-03-26\/sycuan-opens-new-260-million-hotel-resort\">opened<\/a> a $260 million resort. In 2004, it opened a community college to support and promote its cultural identity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you want to help the Kumeyaay, no need to moan about your white guilt: Go on down to their resort, order a few Mai Tais and pump some money into their 2,800 slot machines. Or stay in their luxury downtown lodgings (operated by Marriott), at the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._Grant_Hotel\">US Grant Hotel<\/a>, where 12 US presidents have stayed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Times change, don\u2019t they?
