The Georgia youth football coach who struck a boy twice during a recent game<\/a> is now facing criminal charges.<\/p>\n

The boy\u2019s mother had declined to press charges, but local law enforcement authorities will still bring charges for child abuse against Gerrel Williams, the Osceola County Sheriff\u2019s Office announced Friday<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Osceola County Sheriff\u2019s Office along with our local state attorney\u2019s office have reviewed this case and the decision has been made that charges for child abuse will be filed, regardless of parent\u2019s decision not to press charges,\u201d Maj. Jacob Ruiz said in a statement Friday, according to ESPN<\/a>. \u201cThe actions of this person are despicable and there is zero tolerance when it comes to the abuse of a child.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams, the coach of the U-9 Savannah Gators, slapp<\/a>ed the child in the helmet twice during a stop in play at the American Youth Football National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla., on Monday. The second blow was enough to knock the child to the ground.<\/p>\n

Since the video went viral, Williams has been banned from the league and was fired from his job as a detention center counselor in the Chatham County Sheriff\u2019s\u00a0Office.<\/p>\n

In a video posted to his Facebook<\/a>, Willliams reportedly said there was \u201cno excuse for my actions,\u201d but claimed the boy and his parents had forgiven him, \u201cso nobody else should be bashing me,\u201d according to WJCL.<\/a><\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t stop outrage being directed towards him, including from LeBron James.
\u201cAin\u2019t no way!!! Couldn\u2019t be my kid,\u201d James wrote in an Instagram story Wednesday night with a screenshot of the video. \u201cHell, if I there and it\u2019s not even my kid we gone have more than words for sure.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
