Actress Carol Sutton has died. She was 76. <\/p>\n

Sutton, known for her roles in \u201cSteel Magnolias\u201d and the 2019 film \u201cPoms,\u201d died Friday due to complications of COVID-19, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced. <\/p>\n

\u201cCarol Sutton was practically the Queen of New Orleans theater, having graced the stages across the city for decades,\u201d Cantrell Tweeted<\/a> of the Big Easy native. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will always remember her commanding stage presence, her richly portrayed characters, and the warm heart she shared with her fellow cast and crew in productions such as \u20184000 Miles\u2019 and \u2018A Raisin in the Sun.\u2019 May she rest in God\u2019s perfect peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sutton had an extensive filmography, with roles in the 2001 movie \u201cMonster\u2019s Ball,\u201d the 2011 film \u201cThe Help\u201d and \u201cThe Last Exorcism\u201d in 2010, among others dating back to the 1970s. <\/p>\n

Director of the TV series<\/a> \u201cQueen Sugar,\u201d Ava DuVernay, eulogized Sutton following her death. <\/p>\n
