Google Drive is one of the most trusted services for storing and organizing your data on the cloud. But accidents happ<\/a>en, so it\u2019s important to have your files and documents backed up locally. With Google\u2019s data export tool, Takeout, you can do that in minutes.<\/p>\n

Visit Google Takeout\u2019s website<\/a> and sign in with your Google account to get started. By default, this tool exports your data from all of Google services. Click \u201cDeselect All\u201d to only extract an archive of your cloud drive.<\/p>\n

Scroll down until you reach \u201cDrive\u201d and check the box next to it.<\/p>\n

\"Export<\/p>\n

There are a few more options underneath it you may find handy. You can pick which folders to back up with the \u201cAll Drive data included\u201d option.<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

The \u201cMultiple Formats\u201d button lets you choose in which format the files will be archived, and with \u201cAdvanced Settings,\u201d you can ask Google to also include a bunch of additional information.<\/p>\n

\"Edit<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019re done, click the \u201cNext Step\u201d button present at the bottom of the page.<\/p>\n

On the following screen, Google allows you to customize the export. You have the option to specify whether you\u2019d like Google to email you the archive or directly upload it to another cloud storage provider, configure automatic exports, and define the archive\u2019s file type and size.<\/p>\n

Hit \u201cCreate Export\u201d to proceed to confirm the export.<\/p>\n

\"Extract<\/p>\n

Google will now begin backing up the folders you have selected. This can take hours or even days, depending on the data. If you change your mind or want to edit the export, you can cancel it with the \u201cCancel Export\u201d option.<\/p>\n

\"Cancel<\/p>\n

When this process is over, you should get an email titled \u201cYour Google data is ready to download.\u201d Inside that message, click the \u201cDownload Your Files\u201d button. Sign in again with your Google credentials for authentication.<\/p>\n

\"Download<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll be redirected to the \u201cManage Your Exports\u201d page where your archive will begin downloading. In case it doesn\u2019t automatically, you can manually grab it with the \u201cDownload\u201d button next to the Drive export entry in the list.<\/p>\n

\"Manually<\/p>\n

In the downloaded archive, \u201carchive_browser.html\u201d lets you browse the content from a custom web app, and from the \u201cDrive\u201d folder, you can view and open these files individually.<\/p>\n

Other than Google Drive, you can also export data from other Google services like Gmail and Keep.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
