\n China\u2019s rulers have now released the text of the proposed crush-Hong Kong law, and it\u2019s worse than feared.<\/p>\n

The national (puppet) legislature is poised to pass the measure without involving the city-state\u2019s own lawmakers, in clear violation of the agreement that gave Beijing rule over the island. The pretense is that it\u2019s about protecting the country\u2019s national security, rather than a bid to end freedom in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

The bill will empower Beijing to override the city\u2019s independent legal system and local laws \u2014 as well as to extradite whoever it likes to the mainland to face kangaroo-court \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Extradition was the issue that kicked off Hong Kong\u2019s massive protests back in March 2019. But protests on the island can\u2019t stop a legislature in Beijing, the way they moved Hong Kong\u2019s lawmakers to drop the earlier bill.<\/p>\n

And this measure goes further, outlawing \u201ccollusion with foreign or external forces\u201d \u2014 with the central government handling at least some cases. It also will install a dedicated security-service office in Hong Kong \u2014 putting the jackboots on scene for use as needed.<\/p>\n

The Chinese Communist Party pretends this is about quelling unrest. In reality, it\u2019s all about killing freedom.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
