Craig Melvin is mourning the death of his older brother Lawrence, who died Wednesday from colon cancer at the age of 43.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe lost our older brother this week,\u201d the \u201cToday\u201d show co-anchor, 41, posted Saturday to Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLawrence Meadows was a husband (to Angela, his childhood sweetheart), father (to Addie, 11 and Lawson, 7) Baptist minister, entrepreneur, and one of the best human beings you would\u2019ve ever known,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Melvin discussed his brother\u2019s health battle on \u201cToday,\u201d<\/a> revealing Lawrence had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 39.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never want to hear about anyone getting a cancer diagnosis, so when I got a call about someone dear to me, it sent me for quite the spin,\u201d Melvin said at the time. <\/p>\n

In October of 2016, doctors had removed a baseball-sized tumor from Lawrence\u2019s abdomen and found the cancer had spread. <\/p>\n

\u201cColon cancer robbed him and us of so much,\u201d Melvin continued Saturday. \u201cHe was diagnosed at 39. He died Wednesday at 43.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melvin also noted how Lawrence \u201cspent a fair amount of time over the past few years raising awareness about the disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be keeping up that fight,\u201d Melvin concluded. \u201cWe love you, bro.\u201d<\/p>\n

Within the US, colorectal cancer is \u201cis the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women,\u201d excluding skin cancers, according to the American Cancer Society<\/a>, and is \u201cthe third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and in women.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
