\nCrypto players were quick to respond to the news<\/a> that hackers breached the U.S. Treasury Department.<\/p>\n

According to a report from Reuters, a \u201csophisticated hacking group\u201d backed by a foreign government \u2014 reportedly Russia, according to three people familiar with the investigation \u2014 was able to breach<\/a> the U.S. Treasury Department as well as the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, or NTIA, with the Department of Commerce. <\/p>\n

The incident happ<\/a>ened less than a month after Donald Trump fired<\/a> Department of Homeland Security cybersecurity chief Chris Krebs. However, Reuters stated that the hackers had been monitoring NTIA staff emails run on Microsoft\u2019s Office 365 \u201cfor months.\u201d Other government agencies may also have been breached, but sources did not provide additional details. <\/p>\n

In response to the attack on such a powerful government agency, crypto players pointed out the advantages of Bitcoin (BTC).<\/p>\n

“Bitcoin never gets hacked,”\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0Kraken’s head of business Dan Held on Twitter<\/a>. Bitcoin bull Anthony \u201cPomp\u201d Pompliano\u00a0echoed<\/a>\u00a0Held’s sentiment, saying\u00a0“Bitcoin has never been hacked.”<\/p>\n

Blockfolio took aim at the NTIA\u2019s cybersecurity, implying the agency used dated algorithms for its cryptographic security: <\/p>\n
