First Lady-elect Jill Biden\u00a0on Sunday night responded to the controversy surrounding a recent Wall Street Journal editorial that argued she should refrain from using the title of \u201cDr.\u201d before her name.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether, we will build a world where the accomplishments of our daughters will be celebrated, rather than diminished,\u201d Biden wrote on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The editorial, written by Joseph Epstein, said that\u00a0it \u201cfeels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic\u201d for the title to be used by Jill Biden, who has a doctorate in education from the University of Delaware.<\/p>\n

\u201cA wise man once said that no one should call himself \u2018Dr.\u2019 unless he has delivered a child,\u201d Epstein wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He also referred to the First Lady-elect as \u201ckiddo\u201d in the first sentence.<\/p>\n

The editorial had received backlash from many including the Biden transition team, who called the piece \u201csexist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2033You and the @WSJ should be embarrassed to print the disgusting and sexist attack on @DrBiden running on the @WSJopinion page,\u201d Biden\u2019s spokesman Michael LaRosa\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0at WSJ editorial features editor James Taranto.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you had any respect for women at all you would remove this repugnant display of chauvinism from your paper and apologize to her.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Northwestern University, where Epstein had been listed as an \u201cemeritus lecturer of English,\u201d distanced themselves from the author on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cNorthwestern is firmly committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, and strongly disagrees with Mr. Epstein\u2019s misogynistic views,\u201d said the university,\u00a0the Daily Northwestern reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The school also removed Epstein from their website.<\/p>\n

A separate editorial<\/a> penned by the Wall Street Journal\u2019s editorial-page editor, Paul A. Gigot, on Sunday claimed that the Biden team and the media<\/a> were playing the \u201cgender card to stifle criticism.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy go to such lengths to highlight a single op-ed on a relatively minor issue?\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy guess is that the Biden team concluded it was a chance to use the big gun of identity politics to send a message to critics as it prepares to take power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gigot also argued that Northwestern\u2019s reaction in removing Epstein from its list of former lecturers is \u201chow cancel culture works.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
