Bad news<\/a> for all you\u00a0Helstrom<\/em><\/strong>\u2013<\/em>heads. Hulu has canceled the Marvel series<\/a> after one season \u2013 a season you probably didn\u2019t even realize had premiered already. The series, which drew on characters from Marvel Comics, is (or I guess we should say was<\/em>)\u00a0the last of the lingering non-Disney Marvel TV shows. The series followed \u201cDaimon and Ana Helstrom, the children of a serial killer, hunt the worst of humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helstrom<\/em>, we hardly knew ye. And now we never will. That\u2019s because Hulu canceled\u00a0Helstrom<\/em> after one season, ending the era of live-action shows from\u00a0former head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb<\/strong>. At one point,\u00a0Helstrom<\/em> was meant to be part of a lineup called \u201cAdventure into Fear,\u201d which would\u2019ve included a\u00a0Ghost Rider\u00a0<\/i>series starring\u00a0Gabriel Luna, reprising his role from\u00a0ABC\u2019s\u00a0Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.<\/i> But the\u00a0Ghost Rider<\/em> show never made it to series, and when\u00a0Helstrom<\/em> premiered this year on\u00a0October 16, 2020, it was met with a shrug. It\u2019s currently sitting at 27% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, with the\u00a0Critics Consensus stating: \u201cHelstrom<\/em>\u2018s strong visual effects can\u2019t save it from the fact that its characters simply aren\u2019t interesting enough to overcome their familiar setting.\u201d
\nHere\u2019s a synopsis of what you missed if you didn\u2019t watch the series: \u201cAs the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer,\u00a0<\/span>Helstrom<\/em>\u00a0<\/i><\/span>follows Daimon (Tom Austen<\/strong>) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon<\/strong>), and their complicated dynamic, as they track down the worst of humanity \u2014 each with their own attitude and skills.\u201d\u00a0Helstrom<\/em> was created for television and executive produced by Paul Zbyszewski along with Karim Zreik and Jeph Loeb.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0Helstrom<\/em> now at an end, there are no more lingering Marvel Television shows. Loeb exited Marvel Television last year, and then the company was folded into Kevin Feige\u2019s Marvel Studios. There are two remaining Marvel titles from Loeb, and they\u2019re both animated \u2013 M.O.D.O.K.<\/em>\u00a0and Hit-Monkey<\/em>, both of which are headed for Hulu. There were supposed to be two other animated shows,\u00a0Howard the Duck<\/em> and Tigra & Dazzler<\/em>, but they both were canceled before they really got off the ground.<\/p>\n

Now, going forward, Marvel TV projects are part of Marvel Studios and will be airing exclusively on Disney+. Previous Marvel Television shows include\u00a0Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.<\/em>, which ended in August of this year;\u00a0Agent Carter<\/em>, which was canceled in 2016; the already-forgotten\u00a0Inhumans<\/em>, which also only lasted one season; all of the Marvel-Netflix shows, like\u00a0Daredevil<\/em>,\u00a0Jessica Jones<\/em>,\u00a0Luke Cage<\/em>, and so on;\u00a0Runaways<\/em>, which lasted three seasons and ended in 2019; and the two-season\u00a0Cloak and Dagger<\/em>, which was also canceled in 2019.<\/p>\n
