The arrest of pro-democracy publisher Jimmy Lai, among other repressive steps, is part of Beijing\u2019s \u201cferocious effort to stop all criticism \u2014 at home and abroad.\u201d President Trump \u201ccalled out these tactics,\u201d but now \u201cChina will be lobbying the Biden team to drop all of this in return for a climate deal.\u201d Still, it\u2019s a good sign that soon-to-be National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan tweeted that he is ready \u201cto help those persecuted find safe haven.\u201d How about green cards for the lot of them?<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Corporate Censors Want<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Big Tech censorship has newly awakened many conservatives to the dangers of corporate dominance. Yet, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2020\/12\/13\/our-coddled-elites-and-all-the-pain-they-cant-feel\/\">Oliver Bateman and Malcom Kyeyune argue at American Greatness<\/a>, \u201cwhat we see in the West today is not a project aimed at censoring conservative ideas.\u201d It\u2019s much worse than that: The ultimate aim is \u201cinsulating the elites from the opinions and complaints of the growing mass of plebs, rendering them \u2018untouchable.\u2019\u200a\u201d That\u2019s an \u201cextraordinarily dangerous development,\u201d since it breaks the feedback loop between power and populace. \u201cAn elite class insulated from the signals coming from the rest of the society is as dangerous as an athlete who can no longer feel pain: because pain signals are the body\u2019s way of telling us that we should stop doing something before we hurt or kill ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fertility watch: How To Save Humankind<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Forget climate change \u2014 the \u201cgreatest threat\u201d to humanity is \u201ctoo few people\u201d having offspring who will produce ideas that make the world more \u201chospitable,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/quillette.com\/2020\/12\/11\/the-end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it\/\">warns Glenn Stanton at Quillette<\/a>. The story was \u201cdamning enough\u201d that reporters \u201cshould have \u00addemanded Joe and Hunter answer a slew of pointed questions.\u201d Instead, \u201cthey immediately asserted\u201d The Post story \u201cwas part of a \u2018Russian disinformation campaign.\u2019\u200a\u201d The \u201cmedia suppression\u201d may \u201chave helped Joe Biden win,\u201d setting a \u201cchilling\u201d precedent for the press to \u201cactively censor legitimate reporting\u201d on public graft ahead of a national vote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservative: How Not To Prevent Hacking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>News that Russian hackers have penetrated the Treasury and Commerce departments\u2019 e-mail systems <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/the-morning-jolt\/?utm_source=menu&amp;utm_medium=mobile&amp;utm_campaign=newsletters&amp;utm_term=second&amp;utm_content=morning-jolt\">reminds National Review\u2019s Jim Geraghty <\/a>that the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which is supposed to handle such issues, has seen \u201ca lot of turnover .\u2009.\u2009. since the election.\u201d President Trump fired its chief, Christopher Krebs, Nov. 17 \u201cafter Krebs publicly declared that the election systems were secure and that there was no evidence\u201d anyone \u201chad changed votes from Trump to Biden.\u201d His No. 2 was forced out for other issues. DHS itself \u201chas an acting secretary, an acting deputy secretary, an acting chief of staff\u201d and several other top \u201cacting\u201d officials. \u201cNo one whose duties don\u2019t specifically involve cybersecurity cares about the topic until something goes wrong.
