{"id":133685,"date":"2020-12-15T06:59:48","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T03:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/uniswap-tops-50b-in-lifetime-volume-but-wheres-it-coming-from\/"},"modified":"2020-12-15T06:59:48","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T03:59:48","slug":"uniswap-tops-50b-in-lifetime-volume-but-wheres-it-coming-from","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/uniswap-tops-50b-in-lifetime-volume-but-wheres-it-coming-from\/","title":{"rendered":"# Uniswap tops $50B in lifetime volume, but where&#8217;s it coming from?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong># Uniswap tops $50B in lifetime volume, but where&#8217;s it coming from?<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-5a136f3a>\nLeading decentralized exchange Uniswap has surpassed $50 billion in all-time trade volume, a major milestone for the DEX sector.<\/p>\n<p>On Dec. 15, Uniswap creator Hayden Adams tweeted data indicating the platform has processed a life-time volume of $51.7 billion across 26,000 unique trading pairs \u2014 equating to nearly $2 million per pairing on average.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"> Looks like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UniswapProtocol?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UniswapProtocol<\/a> passed $50b in all time volume last week.<\/p>\n<p> This is split across 26,000 unique trading pairs<\/p>\n<p> Just need to do this 19 more times to hit 1 trillion <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/P4eQTnX4Aq\">pic.twitter.com\/P4eQTnX4Aq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hayden Adams  (@haydenzadams) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/haydenzadams\/status\/1338582286112092162?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2020<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>If Uniswap were to maintain its recent volumes of $10 billion per month over the past three months, Adams <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/haydenzadams\/status\/1338584576118108161\">estimates<\/a> the platform would exceed $1 trillion in life-time volume in eight years.<\/p>\n<p>Some from the crypto community have expressed skepticism regarding the source of much of Uniswap\u2019s volume \u2014 with the platform featuring no KYC, and no vetting process for listed tokens. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> user \u2018cyber_hokie\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cyber_hokie\/status\/1338596383046201345\">insinuated<\/a> that much of the platform\u2019s volume came from darknet markets, money laundering, and wash-trading \u2014 although Uniswap\u2019s fixed fee schedule would make wash-trading cost prohibitive.<\/p>\n<p>The platform has been a destination for ill-gotten funds. In September, the hacker who stole $200 million of crypto from Hong Kong-based exchange KuCoin sent $1.2 million worth of SNX to Uniswap for laundering, intensifying <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zackvoell\/status\/1289364333487587330?lang=en\">concerns<\/a> regarding the potential for criminal actors to abuse the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter user \u2018QueenCryptoCat\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/supermariokart\/status\/1338583898150727680\">speculated<\/a> that \u201chalf\u201d of Uniswap\u2019s volume may have been generated by tokens that ultimately comprised little more than \u2018rug-pulls,\u2019 asking:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIs it possible to break down the rug v. vs legitimate volume?\u201d\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since launching its second \u201cV2\u201d iteration on May 18, Uniswap\u2019s total value locked has skyrocketed from $36.5 million to rank as the fifth-largest DeFi protocol with $1.37 billion today, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/defipulse.com\/uniswap\">DeFi Pulse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Uniswap has faced constant competition from forked clones and \u201cvampire attacks\u201d seeking to siphon away its liquidity, with rival automated market maker SushiSwap currently ranking behind Uniswap as the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/defipulse.com\/sushiswap\">sixth-largest <\/a>DeFi project with $1.07 billion under management.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dune Analytics, Uniswap represents 59.5% of weekly DEX volume, followed by 0x with 12.9%, SushiSwap with 11%, and Curve with 10.2%.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2020-12\/084274aa-a13b-4855-b0d2-9dfa0625cd83.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">Weekly DEX volume: <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/duneanalytics?lang=en\">Dune Analytics<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Uniswap also dwarfs its opponents by number of traders, with more than 101,000 unique addresses interacting with the protocol in the past seven days.
