During that time, they were able to make a number of announcements. So many announcements were made that we\u2019re still sifting through the ramifications of them. The <\/span><strong><i>Star Wars <\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">universe is going to look very different in a few years, and that\u2019s not a bad thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the things I love about <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0is how malleable it is, and how we\u2019re able to derive new context and understanding out of the original texts as new chapters of this intergalactic gospel are created. There is something so pure about rewatching <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A New Hope <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the new context from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Empire Strikes Back, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trying to make sense of the idea that Darth Vader was really Luke Skywalker\u2019s father. There is nothing more terrifying than watching Luke Skywalker teeter so close to the dark side after watching his father struggle with the same failings in the prequel films. The Skywalker Saga is rife with these re-contextualizations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Watching <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revenge of the Sith <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after the entirety of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Clone Wars <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is something like a religious experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What new thing will we learn that forces us to reevaluate our understanding of the sacred Jedi texts?<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revealed in that metric ton of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> was an acknowledgement that the upcoming <strong><em>Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em><\/strong> series coming to Disney+ will be set 10 years after the events of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revenge of the Sith. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucasfilm\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kathleen Kennedy also dropped some bombshell news: <strong>Hayden Christensen<\/strong> would be back in the role of Darth Vader, promising us the \u201crematch of the century.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/hayden-christensen-returning-to-star-wars-in-disney-kenobi-series?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> had access to the preview footage that wasn\u2019t shown to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> public and quoted <strong>Ewan McGregor<\/strong> (Obi-Wan Kenobi) in the interview footage as saying: \u201cThe most beautiful thing of all [about the series] is that it\u2019s brought me back together with Hayden.\u201d They noted that he also mentioned that \u201cthe two will have \u2018another swing at each other\u2019 before the end of the series.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Can_This_Be\"><\/span><b>How Can This Be?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Yoda asked the younglings in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attack of the Clones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when Obi-Wan seemingly lost a planet, many fans were asking \u201cHow can this be?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some insisted that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A New Hope <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gives us all the proof we need that such a meeting would be impossible, but I would hesitate to characterize anything in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A New Hope <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as proof that Kenobi and Vader haven\u2019t met since their fateful duel on Mustafar. In fact, I think the rest of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">universe has been hinting for a long time that it would be impossible for Obi-Wan and Vader <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to have met again.<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the best place to start is Obi-Wan\u2019s statement to Luke in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Return of the Jedi <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(that also doubles as the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> for the utterly brilliant masterpiece <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke, you\u2019re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ll find that all the evidence that Obi-Wan and Vader <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can\u2019t <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">possibly meet again before <em>A New Hope<\/em> is subjective and completely non-specific.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can start with the fact that Obi-Wan Kenobi knows that Darth Vader survived. At the end of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revenge of the Sith<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Obi-Wan was under the impression that Anakin was left for dead. Through the other parts of the canon, we know that Vader and his existence were kept as largely secrets or myths through the broader part of the galaxy. Word of Vader\u2019s existence wouldn\u2019t reach Kenobi\u2019s ears on Tatooine casually. He likely would have had to do some firsthand investigating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Darth Vader first senses Obi-Wan\u2019s presence on the first Death Star, his line of dialogue ends with an ellipses. \u201cI sense something. A presence I\u2019ve not felt since\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That ellipses can mean <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anything <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The thing that will hang many people up is another Vader line: \u201cWhen I left you, I was but the learner, now <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">am the master.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what does this really mean?<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_3 --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some take it to mean that Vader is speaking literally, that the last time they met was on Mustafar and he was but the learner with Obi-Wan as the master, but their roles had changed. However, I think this actually refers to Vader\u2019s status as a Dark Lord of the Sith. By the time of their duel on Mustafar, Anakin was already an advanced Jedi Knight (not a master, thanks Mace Windu). He hadn\u2019t been elevated by the Sith as anything but an apprentice at that point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s nothing in the statement that specifically refers to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they last met, only that they had met in the past.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a perfect gray area for <em>Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em> director <strong>Deborah Chow<\/strong> to explore and if we get a great story out of it, why not?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Could_It_Play_Out\"><\/span><b>How Could It Play Out?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is nothing that says that Obi-Wan Kenobi has to remain on Tatooine during the dark times. We know he spends a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lot <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of time out there. But if he perceived a threat to Luke off-planet, don\u2019t you think he\u2019d go address it?\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If whispers were to reach him that his apprentice had survived his apparent death on Mustafar, don\u2019t you think he\u2019d go investigate? Could Yoda have sent him on such a mission? Or Qui-Gon\u2019s spirit?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This confrontation could be quite meaningful to both Darth Vader and Obi-Wan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars Rebels<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we see an Obi-Wan who has transcended to a new level. Truly a master of not only his teachings as a Jedi, but his emotions, and his abilities in the Force. Could his promised rematch and ordeal in this new series help Obi-Wan transition into that masterhood? Could it help Vader take that next step on his own path?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s another line that gives us a clue. This one comes from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Return of the Jedi. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke Skywalker tries to turn his father back to the good side and Vader is having none of it. \u201cObi-Wan once thought as you do,\u201d he tells his son.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_4 --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But when have we ever seen that from Obi-Wan?\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He didn\u2019t think he could turn him back on Mustafar and it wasn\u2019t a topic of discussion then. Could that be what this new series hinges on?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That idea excites me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, I think this confrontation will leave Vader thinking that Obi-Wan is gone forever, one way or the other.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But anything is possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We shouldn\u2019t cling to the truths that we think we know. As new information becomes available, we ought to be open to it. Understand that there\u2019s nothing that says it <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to be this way. That\u2019s just how we had it in our heads. We took the information we had and inferred a story. Sometimes those stories don\u2019t play out like we think they might and we\u2019ll have to change our minds about what we thought. It\u2019s like the scientific process.
