Painting with John<\/i> is coming soon to HBO. The cable channel has set a premiere date for the new unscripted series featuring artist John Lurie. A preview has been released for the new series, which features Lurie as he paints and reflects on what he\u2019s learned in his life and many careers.<\/p>\n

HBO revealed more about Painting with John<\/em> in a press release.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cHBO presents PAINTING WITH JOHN<\/i>, an all-new unscripted series written, directed by and starring cult favorite musician, actor, director and painter, John Lurie. The six-episode season debuts FRIDAY, JANUARY 22 (11:00-11:30 p.m. ET\/PT)<\/b>. The series will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max. Photographed and edited by Erik Mockus, PAINTING WITH JOHN<\/i> is executive produced by Adam McKay and Todd Schulman for Hyperobject Industries.<\/p>\n

Part meditative tutorial, part fireside chat, each episode of PAINTING WITH JOHN<\/i> finds the artist ensconced at his worktable, where he hones his intricate watercolor techniques and shares his reflections on what he\u2019s learned about life. Combining images of Lurie\u2019s paintings, original music, and irreverent point of view on tapping into your childlike artist side, his overall ambivalence toward fame, and more, the series reminds us to prioritize a little time every day for creativity, fun and a bit of mischief.<\/p>\n

John Lurie\u2019s career has spanned music, film, television and art. From 1979 to 2000, Lurie led the musical ensemble The Lounge Lizards. He is the creator and star of the television series \u201cFishing with John\u201d and has composed and performed music for 20 television and film works, including his Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the series Get Short<\/i>y. Lurie has appeared in HBO\u2019s Oz<\/i>, as well as \u201cStranger than Paradise,\u201d \u201cDown by Law,\u201d \u201cThe Last Temptation of Christ\u201d and \u201cWild at Heart,\u201d among others. In 1999, Lurie recorded \u201cThe Legendary Marvin Pontiac Greatest Hits\u201d under a pseudonym and in 2017, he released \u201cMarvin Pontiac: The Asylum Tapes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hyperobject Industries\u2019 Adam McKay also serves as an executive producer on the recent HBO documentary 537 VOTES<\/i>. Other television projects for HBO include the Untitled Lakers Project limited series, and a limited series based on Julie K. Brown\u2019s upcoming book about Jeffrey Epstein. McKay and Bong Joon Ho are partnering to develop HBO limited series inspired by Bong Joon Ho\u2019s film, \u201cParasite.\u201d McKay continues to serve as Executive Producer on HBO\u2019s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning series Succession<\/i>.<\/p>\n
