\n The strong summer sun is capable of wiping out 90 percent or more of coronavirus in just 34 minutes, a new study has found.<\/p>\n

Scientists suggest that \u201cmidday sunlight in most US and world cities during summer\u201d is extremely effective in inactivating the virus that causes COVID-19, according to the study published earlier this month.<\/p>\n

The virus, however, is most infectious from December until March \u2014 when it can live for up to a day or more \u201cwith risk of re-aerosolization and transmission in most of these cities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The study, which app<\/a>eared in the journal Photochemistry and Photobiology,<\/span>\u00a0was authored by Jose-Luis Sagripanti and David Lytle \u2014 scientists who are retired from the US Army and Food and Drug Administration, respectively.<\/p>\n

The pair also suggests that the mandatory stay-at-home orders issued in hopes of stopping the spread of coronavirus may have been more harmful than good.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn contrast, healthy people outdoors receiving sunlight could have been exposed to lower viral dose with more chances for mounting an efficient immune response,\u201d the study said.<\/p>\n

Past research has shown that during the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918-\u201919, patients who were exposed to fresh air and sunshine in \u201copen-air hospitals\u201d may have had a better chance at survival.<\/p>\n

The new evidence comes months after health experts shot down the idea that the virus doesn\u2019t spread as much in hotter climates.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
