{"id":134168,"date":"2020-12-15T20:12:10","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T17:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/massive-snowstorm-set-to-threaten-power-outages-in-nyc\/"},"modified":"2020-12-15T20:12:10","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T17:12:10","slug":"massive-snowstorm-set-to-threaten-power-outages-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/massive-snowstorm-set-to-threaten-power-outages-in-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"#Massive snowstorm set to threaten power outages in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Massive snowstorm set to threaten power outages in NYC<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/111518_NYC_November_snow_stormPM_3.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The blockbuster storm headed for the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le is still set to dump up to a foot of snow in the city \u2014 as forecasters warned of power outages and treacherous road conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The first flurries are expected around 5 p.m. Wednesday, as a mix of snow and rain with the potential to snarl the evening commute, according to Accuweather senior meteorologist Tyler Roys.<\/p>\n<p>But the heaviest snow is expected to fall beginning around 8 p.m., lasting until around 2 a.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this time we can expect to see wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, which can lead to white out conditions,\u201d he said. \u201cThe visibility is going to be reduced greatly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Snow is expected to fall at a rate of about an inch an hour in the city, and at about two inches an hour north of the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., the snow will be heavy at times, and \u201cmoderate\u201d at others, according to Roys.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s set to taper off entirely by 10 a.m. \u2014 hours after the earliest morning commuters leave their homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re thinking of a Thursday morning commute, it\u2019s definitely going to be difficult,\u201d Roys said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be dangerous.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Staten Island and Brooklyn are forecast to see closer to six inches of snow. The Bronx, Yonkers and further north should expect a foot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, northern New Jersey, especially near the Pennsylvania border, could be blanketed in up to two feet of snow, Roys said.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s high temperature for the city is 33 degrees, but it will feel more like 24 with the wind chill. The expected low temperature is 30 degrees, but it will feel like a frigid 8 degrees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mercury won\u2019t rise above the freezing mark on Thursday, and it could fall as low as 21 degrees. The wind chill is expected to make it feel as bitter as 14 degrees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause temperatures are going to be hovering around freezing, the upper 20s \u2014 that temperature range leads to this wet, heavy snow, [plus] those winds\u2026 it increases the chances of tree branches to break and trees to wall onto power lines,\u201d Roys said. \u201cIt increases the chance of power outages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The outages could make work difficult or even impossible for those still telecommuting during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Roys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of a sudden, you\u2019ve taken away millions of people to potentially work Thursday or even Friday, depending on how quickly they can clean up,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a threat that could linger into the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the bright side though, \u201cthis is the snow that\u2019s conducive for making snowmen, having a snowball fight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is\u2026what everyone loves to do with snow,\u201d he said.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
