And it felt miraculous during the making-of, per newly released\u00a0<em>The Empire Strikes Back<\/em> outtakes, which feature never-before-seen footage of the cast and crew goofing around on set of the 1980\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> film.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring both familiar and rare footage, the newly released\u00a0<em>Empire Strikes Back<\/em> outtakes showcase musings from the stars as they look back on the making of the film, and even after the success of\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em>, they didn\u2019t anticipate the impact that the sequel would have. But fans were able to enjoy the sci-fi classic just as much at home, with the debut of the 4K edition on Disney+, the sale of special\u00a0<em>Empire Strikes Back\u00a0<\/em>art prints, and now, the debut of all-new\u00a0<em>Empire Strikes Back<\/em> outtakes, released by Good Morning America.<\/p>\n<p>While some of this footage is familiar \u2014 Harrison Ford playing with Carrie Fisher\u2019s hair, Fisher being dwarfed by all the very tall men on set \u2014 this new footage is like a treasure trove of lost moments and faces, many of whom are sadly no longer with us. There\u2019s a wistful quality to the footage, especially whenever Fisher is onscreen, but also an excitement of something new starting: Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and others reflect on the change that was in the air on set of\u00a0<em>Empire Strikes Back<\/em>, as the cast and crew reunited to shoot a sequel that bucked the trend for follow-ups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing back for the second film, I think the audience, they were so surprised that it wasn\u2019t just a carbon copy of\u00a0<em>Star Wars.\u00a0<\/em>I think that\u2019s what made it distinctive,\u201d Hamill said.<\/p>\n<p>Hamill later added, \u201cWhen I read the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>, it was so unexpected. Usually when they do a sequel, they want to just repeat the experience. And that would mean that the second film would end with exhilaration and triumph. It was so daring, I don\u2019t think we were ever able to be that surprising again. Because it was deeper, it was more cerebral, it was more spiritual. The fact that we faced defeat at the end!\u201d<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->Not to continue to beat the drum for\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Last Jedi<\/em>, but what Hamill says about\u00a0<em>Empire Strikes Back<\/em>, considered by many to be the best\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> film, could be extended to Rian Johnson\u2019s divisive 2017\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em> sequel: a film that surprises, bucks expectations, and ends in defeat.
