\nLast month, Netflix removed<\/a> Dave Chappelle\u2019s Comedy Central series<\/a> Chappelle\u2019s Show<\/em> from its platform at the request of the comedia<\/a>n. Chappelle requested the removal after claiming that he did not approve of the licensing deal between ViacomCBS (owner of Chappelle\u2019s Show<\/em>) and the streaming giant. Now, HBO has followed suit, according to Variety<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Earlier today (December 15), Variety<\/em> spoke with Casey Bloys, the chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max during Variety<\/em>\u2019s Virtual FYCFest. During the interview Bloys stated that Chapelle\u2019s Show<\/em> will no longer be available via HBO after December 31, 2020. \u201cWe had a conversation with Dave. I won\u2019t get into it, but it\u2019s very clear that it\u2019s a very unique and specific and emotional issue he\u2019s got,\u201d Bloys told Variety<\/em>. \u201cSo at the end of the year, at the end of this year, December 31st, we\u2019re going to honor his request and take the show down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Netflix announced the removal of Chappelle\u2019s Show<\/em> from their platform in late November. The decision followed a lengthy video that Dave Chappelle posted to his Instagram account. The clip is titled \u201cUnforgiven<\/a>, \u201d and it features footage from a recent stand-up performance. During the video, Chappelle stated that he \u201cnever got paid\u201d after leaving Chappelle\u2019s Show<\/em>, and that he was \u201cfurious\u201d when he learned it would be available on Netflix.<\/p>\n
