Netflix is making a new animated feature based on\u00a0The Magician\u2019s Elephant<\/em><\/strong>, the book from writer\u00a0Kate DiCamillo<\/strong>. Featuring a voice cast that includes Sian Clifford<\/strong>, Pixie Davie<\/strong>s, Natasia Demetriou<\/strong>, Dawn French<\/strong>, Brian Tyree Henry<\/strong>, Noah Jupe<\/strong>, Aasif Mandvi<\/strong>, and Mandy Patinkin<\/strong>, the story follows a boy looking for his long-lost sister and having to find a \u201cmysterious elephant and the magician (voiced by Benedict Wong<\/strong>) who will conjure it.\u201d We\u2019ve all been there, right? Boy, let me tell you, if I had a nickel for every time I had to find a mysterious elephant and the magician who will conjure it, I\u2019d be a wealthy man.<\/p>\n

The Magician\u2019s Elephant<\/em> is a children\u2019s book that was published in 2015, and since I haven\u2019t been a child (at least physically) in a long time, I\u2019ll confess I\u2019ve never heard of it. But the youths of today likely have, and that\u2019s why Netflix is turning the book into an animated feature film. Based on the book by Kate DiCamillo,\u00a0The Magician\u2019s Elephant<\/em>\u00a0follows Peter (voiced by Noah Jupe), who is searching for his long-lost sister named Adel (voiced by Pixie Davies). During his search, Peter \u201ccrosses paths with a fortune teller in the market square, there is only one question on his mind: is his sister still alive? The answer, that he must find a mysterious elephant and the magician (voiced by Benedict Wong) who will conjure it, sets Peter off on a harrowing journey to complete three seemingly impossible tasks that will change the face of his town forever. \u201d
\nThe full cast includes\u00a0Sian Clifford, Pixie Davies, Natasia Demetriou, Dawn French, Brian Tyree Henry, Noah Jupe, Aasif Mandvi, Mandy Patinkin, Miranda Richardson, Cree Summer, Lorraine Toussaint, Benedict Wong.\u00a0Wendy Rogers will direct while Julia Pistor will produce. \u201cPeter\u2019s story planted itself in my heart when I first read the book \u2013 I felt very connected to him, and was totally captivated by the world and the characters,\u201d said Rogers. \u201cThe power of hope, the belief that anything is possible, and the ability to ask \u201cwhat if?\u201d are all theme<\/a>s that are woven into the fabric of this film, and resonate now more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pistor added: \u201cWhen I first read Kate DiCamillo\u2019s book, I knew that I had to make The Magician\u2019s Elephant into a film. It\u2019s as inspiring as it is entertaining, and has such a wonderful blend of adventure, heart, magic and off-center humor. The film has such a unique visual style that transports the audience away to another world, one that Wendy and I wanted to ensure reflects the world as it really is \u2013 full of different cultures and belief.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Magician\u2019s Elephant<\/em> is the latest title to join a growing line-up of animated Netflix features, including\u00a0Klaus<\/em>, the recently released\u00a0Over the Moon<\/em>, and the upcoming titles\u00a0Pinnochio<\/em>, from co-director Guillermo del Toro,\u00a0Wendell & Wild<\/em>, from\u00a0Nightmare Before Christmas<\/em> director\u00a0Henry Selick, and\u00a0Apollo 10 \u00bd: A Space Age Adventure<\/em>,\u00a0from filmmaker Richard Linklater.<\/p>\n
