Our network growth metric picked up <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24ETH&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$ETH<\/a> reaching 177.5k addresses created. Notably more addresses interacting on an asset&#8217;s network is a very promising indicator for bulls. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y6Uvhzyemq\">https:\/\/t.co\/Y6Uvhzyemq<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yIv2SOYhDS\">pic.twitter.com\/yIv2SOYhDS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Santiment (@santimentfeed) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/santimentfeed\/status\/1338430397248499715?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2020<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>The number of active addresses also surged on Dec. 14 to 714,081, though its all-time high came during the crypto boom in January 2018 when it topped 1.1 million according to<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitinfocharts.com\/comparison\/activeaddresses-eth.html\"> <\/a><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitinfocharts.com\/comparison\/activeaddresses-eth.html\">Bitinfocharts.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There could be a number of reasons for the uptick in address creation and active addresses in recent months including the surge in DeFi liquidity mining offering good returns with ETH as collateral. <\/p>\n<p>The anticipation of staking rewards on the newly launched ETH 2.0 Beacon Chain may have also driven address growth as investors buy ETH to stake on the new blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>But a<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ethereum\/comments\/kdk4xt\/177000_addresses_were_created_on_ethereum_within\/\"> Reddit<\/a> thread about the milestone, discussed the possibility that a token airdrop from Flare Networks for XRP holders was a big contributor to the address creation spike. Flare is a new protocol that intends to bring decentralized finance to the XRP ecosystem by making it compatible with existing smart contracts with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit<\/a>or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/user\/SoundofCreekWater\/\">SoundofCreekWater<\/a><u> said:<\/u><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Could be bc of the XRP\/Spark\/Flare airdrop, which requires an ethereum-compatible address&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Flare\u2019s native FLR token will be used to collateralize the issuance of FXRP, a fully trustless representation of XRP on the network. The airdrop took a snapshot of XRP balances on Dec. 12, which coincided with the Ethereum address creation spike.<\/p>\n<p>Flare<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.flare.xyz\/further-information-on-the-spark-token-distribution\/\"> explained<\/a> that 45 billion Spark tokens will be distributed, with 15% claimable at the time of network launch which has been slated for three to six months\u2019 time. The rest will be distributed over the next two years. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf you self custody, the method of claiming the Spark token is simply to set the Message Key field on your XRP Ledger address to your Flare address.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It goes on to explain that the Flare address is an \u2018Ethereum compatible address\u2019 which must be created within six months of the snapshot date. <\/p>\n<p>While major exchanges such as<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.coinbase.com\/coinbase-to-support-flare-networks-spark-airdrop-5205ad889463\"> Coinbase<\/a> and<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/articles\/78c11feba44d443998cf7a5329539e91\"> Binance<\/a> are supporting the airdrop and automating the process, those that hold their XRP off a centralized exchange will have needed to create a Flare address in order to be eligible for the airdrop.
