Colin Trevorrow<\/strong> is travel<\/a>ing from\u00a0Jurassic World to the depths of Atlantis. The\u00a0Jurassic World: Dominion<\/em> director is set to direct and produce the thriller\u00a0Atlantis<\/em><\/strong> for Universal Pictures, based on a story about the mythical city by Trevorrow and Matt Charman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Variety reports that Colin Trevorrow is set to direct and produce the thriller\u00a0Atlantis<\/em> that is being developed by Universal Pictures with Trevorrow\u2019s Metronome Film Co. Trevorrow also co-wrote the story for\u00a0Atlantis<\/em> with Matt Charman, which delves into the mythical lost city.\u00a0Dante Harper<\/strong>, the writer of the original spec script<\/a> for Tom Cruise\u2019s\u00a0Edge of Tomorrow<\/em>, will pen the script for\u00a0Atlantis<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Few details were shared about this new thriller, but according to Deadline, which first reported the news<\/a>, Trevorrow\u2019s\u00a0Atlantis<\/em> will differ from \u201cprevious incarnations of the mythical city as an underwater kingdom,\u201d and instead set the film on \u201ca lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India and Oceania. It is a multicultural civilization with its own advanced technology<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Atlantis is one of the most famous lost civilizations. First introduced in Plato\u2019s works\u00a0Timaeus\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Critias<\/em> as a technologically advanced fictional island that is flooded and sunk by the gods due to the hubris of its leaders, the lost city of Atlantis and its likeness has appeared throughout literature since. However, there aren\u2019t as many films about it as you would guess. While a few films were made about the lost city in the \u201960s, the most famous film about Atlantis is Disney\u2019s animated 2001 film\u00a0Atlantis: The Lost Empire<\/em>, which likely remains the one that left the most lasting impact on people\u2019s minds today. Atlantis has appeared in films like\u00a0Aquaman<\/em> and\u00a0Justice League<\/em> as well.<\/p>\n

Trevorrow is currently preparing to restart production on\u00a0Jurassic World: Dominion<\/em> following a three-month shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.\u00a0Atlantis<\/em> will likely be his next gig, though the filmmaker apparently first started the project in 2018, keeping it under wraps to give to his creative team,\u00a0led by production designer Kevin Jenkins (Star Wars: Episode IX<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Jurassic World: Dominion<\/em>), time to research before going to script. From the sound of things, it appears that\u00a0Atlantis<\/em> is Trevorrow\u2019s next passion project after\u00a0The Book of Henry<\/em>, though that film famously went south and became one of the filmmaker\u2019s worst-reviewed movies<\/a>. Hopefully that won\u2019t be the case with\u00a0Atlantis<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Atlantis<\/em> will be Metronome\u2019s second project at Universal following\u00a0Space Opera<\/em>, a musical with producer\u00a0Marc Platt based on Catherynne Valente\u2019s book.<\/p>\n
