Binance related its issues to the number of people surfing the exchange.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Changpeng Zhao, or CZ, Binance\u2019s CEO, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1339212003152257030\">tweeted<\/a> on Wednesday at 2:13 pm UTC: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c#Bitcoin just popped. Experienced some scaling issues. Should be fixed for now. Underestimated demand. Adding A LOT more \u2018servers\u2019 still.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>An update from CZ came about half an hour later, revealing improvements, as well as a dramatic surge in users on the platform. \u201cStill some latency issues here and there. Working on it, all hands on deck,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1339220339520237569\">tweeted<\/a>, adding: \u201cBitcoin goes up 5%, traffic goes up 30x.\u201d By 2:56 pm UTC, CZ <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1339222832580968448\">noted<\/a> the situation as resolved. <\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin broke above $20,000 for the first time ever at 1:42 pm UTC on Dec. 16, reaching a price near $20,800 by 2:14 pm, according to TradingView.com <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/chart\/?symbol=BITSTAMP%3ABTCUSD\">data<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>At 2:45 pm UTC, Coinbase also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/status.coinbase.com\/incidents\/93smh99lxtxz\">reported<\/a> issues via its status page. \u201cCoinbase.com is experiencing connectivity issues,\u201d the exchange posted. The exchange said that the problem was resolved at 4:27 pm. <\/p>\n<p>Coinbase has a\u00a0history of technical difficulties during periods of high traffic, commonly referencing \u201cconnectivity issues\u201d as the cause.
