{"id":135094,"date":"2020-12-16T22:40:09","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T19:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/bitcoins-rollercoaster-ride\/"},"modified":"2020-12-16T22:40:09","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T19:40:09","slug":"bitcoins-rollercoaster-ride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/bitcoins-rollercoaster-ride\/","title":{"rendered":"#Bitcoin&#8217;s rollercoaster ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Bitcoin&#8217;s rollercoaster ride<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-gallery lightGallery\">\n<div data-thumb=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/tmb\/2020\/thefirst50bi.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/scx2.b-cdn.net\/gfx\/news\/2020\/thefirst50bi.jpg\" data-sub-html=\"The first 50 bitcoins were born on January 3, 2009\">\n<figure class=\"article-img\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/800\/2020\/thefirst50bi.jpg\" alt=\"The first 50 bitcoins were born on January 3, 2009\" title=\"The first 50 bitcoins were born on January 3, 2009\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\"\/><figcaption class=\"text-darken text-low-up text-truncate-js text-truncate mt-3\">\n                The first 50 bitcoins were born on January 3, 2009<br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Virtual currency bitcoin\u2014which broke the $20,000 barrier in trading for the first time Wednesday\u2014morphed from an academic paper to one of the world&#8217;s most closely-watched crypto currencies.<\/p>\n<p>                                                                                Here is a look at its tumultuous rise, fall and rise again.<\/p>\n<p><b>Mysterious beginnings<\/b><\/p>\n<p>As the world reels from the 2008 financial crash, a nine-page paper called &#8220;Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System&#8221; is published on October 31 by someone called Satoshi Nakamoto.<\/p>\n<p>The mysterious Nakamoto\u2014whose real identity still remains a mystery\u2014 proposes creating a system where payments can be sent &#8220;directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It is a master plan for an alternative to currency not controlled by any central bank and that could be accessed by anyone.<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8216;Genesis block&#8217;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The first 50 bitcoins were born on January 3, 2009.<\/p>\n<p>These were bunched into a single unit called a block, the first of which was called the &#8220;genesis block&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>From then on, every new block was attached to the one that came before it, creating what is today commonly known as a block chain.<\/p>\n<p>The first transaction between two accounts occurred nine days later, when Satoshi Nakamoto sent 10 bitcoins to computer scientist Hal Finney as a test.<\/p>\n<p><b>0.00076 dollars<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin&#8217;s first value was deduced on October 5, 2009 from its cost of production\u2014.076 US cents.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the best way to get bitcoins was to &#8220;mine&#8221; them by using computers to solve difficult puzzles that release bitcoins from a block.<\/p>\n<p>The electricity costs were offset by bitcoin&#8217;s real-world value.<\/p>\n<p>The puzzles get more difficult with the rise in the number of users, making their mining progressively more expensive.<\/p>\n<p><b>The $100 million pizza<\/b><\/p>\n<p>On May 22, 2010, a virtual currency developer in Florida got a delivery man to accept 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first known bitcoin payment, worth about $41 at the time. Those bitcoins are now worth in excess of $200 million.<\/p>\n<p>May 22 is now known as &#8220;Bitcoin Pizza Day&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><b>Nakomoto vanishes<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Nakamoto announced his withdrawal from the project on December 12, 2010, ceasing all bitcoin operations four months later.<\/p>\n<p>The identity and number of bitcoins owned by Nakamoto remains a mystery.<\/p>\n<p>Nakamoto briefly re<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared in an internet chat room in 2014, denying a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>week magazine article that claimed to unmask his identity.<\/p>\n<p><b>Bankruptcy<\/b><\/p>\n<p>After malfunctioning for over two weeks, the main bitcoin exchange\u2014based in Tokyo and known as Mt. Gox\u2014filed for bankruptcy protection in February 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Accounting for nearly 80 percent of all bitcoin operations, the exchange said it had been hacked, losing some $477 million in crypto currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Its former chief, a Frenchman named Mark Karpeles, gets a two- and-a-half-year suspended sentence from a Tokyo court in March 2019 for tampering with electronic data.
