{"id":135494,"date":"2020-12-17T10:25:14","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T07:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/twitter-reverses-changes-to-retweet-function-following-election\/"},"modified":"2020-12-17T10:25:14","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T07:25:14","slug":"twitter-reverses-changes-to-retweet-function-following-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/twitter-reverses-changes-to-retweet-function-following-election\/","title":{"rendered":"#Twitter reverses changes to retweet function following election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> reverses changes to retweet function following election<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/twitter-fleets-68.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Twitter\u00a0Inc. is reversing changes made to its retweet function intended to curb the spread of misinformation during the U.S. presidential election, the company said. <\/p>\n<p>The microblogging site had in October made it difficult for users to retweet a tweet with misinformation and promoted the use of quote tweets, which included commentary from the user.<\/p>\n<p>It had also imposed curbs including labeling and removal of tweets calling for people to interfere with the election process or implementation of results.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter\u00a0said it will no longer prompt quote tweets from the retweet icon. \u201cRetweet functionality will be returning to the way it was before,\u201d the company <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TwitterSupport\/status\/1339350334162890753?s=20\">said in a statement<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Quote tweets instead of retweets was intended to encourage thoughtful amplification, but that has not h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened in practice, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe use of Quote Tweets increased, but 45% of them included single-word affirmations and 70% had less than 25 characters,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe increase in Quote Tweets was also offset by an overall 20% decrease in sharing through both Retweets and Quote Tweets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Facebook has in the past few days rolled back their algorithm that lifted <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> from authoritative outlets over hyperpartisan sources after November\u2019s election, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/16\/technology\/facebook-reverses-postelection-algorithm-changes-that-boosted-news-from-authoritative-sources.html\">a report in the New York Times<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Facebook did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The implementation of the algorithm had resulted in a reduction in traffic for partisan sites like Breitbart and Occupy Democrats and an increase for mainstream news publishers, the report said.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
