{"id":135692,"date":"2020-12-17T16:46:41","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T13:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/winter-storm-gail-piled-more-snow-on-nyc-than-all-last-winter\/"},"modified":"2020-12-17T16:46:41","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T13:46:41","slug":"winter-storm-gail-piled-more-snow-on-nyc-than-all-last-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/winter-storm-gail-piled-more-snow-on-nyc-than-all-last-winter\/","title":{"rendered":"#Winter Storm Gail piled more snow on NYC than all last winter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Winter Storm Gail piled more snow on NYC than all last winter<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Winter Storm Gail dumped more snow on the Big <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le overnight than the city saw in all of last winter, weather experts said Thursday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A total of 6.5 inches of snow and sleet <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NWSNewYorkNY\/status\/1339436426283270145\">was reported<\/a> as of midnight in Central Park, the New York City branch of the National Weather Service tweeted. That\u2019s compared to a mere 4.8 inches for the entire 2019-2020 winter season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Between 6 and 10 inches fell across the city as of around 6:15 a.m. before the heaviest snowfall tapered off and changed into more of a wintry mix, according to Accuweather meteorologist Isaac Longley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast winter was a very mild winter and we really didn\u2019t see any of those major winter storms, those nor\u2019easters,\u201d Longley told The Post. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo a lot of locations, including New York City, did not really see a lot of snowfall at all. It was a record-breaking year in terms of low snowfall amounts.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>So since the bar for snow was set so low last year, Longley said \u201cit\u2019s not completely surprising that we can get more than that in one storm this year, especially a storm of this magnitude.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cimpressive\u201d storm was \u201cmostly what we expected for the city,\u201d Longley said \u2014 though the totals north of the five boroughs exceeded the initial forecast, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" alt=\"A delivery worker traverses the snow in SoHo\" class=\"wp-image-16843673 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/nyc-snow-54.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/nyc-snow-54.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/nyc-snow-54.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/nyc-snow-54.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/nyc-snow-54.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2000 2000w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>A delivery worker traverses the snow in SoHo.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Stephen Yang <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSince this storm ended up tracking farther north than previously expected, the higher snowfall totals were seen farther north of the city,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo pretty much the further you go up the Lower Hudson Valley, that\u2019s where you saw the higher totals of 8 to locally 16 inches of snowfall at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The five boroughs aren\u2019t expected to see much more snow Thursday morning \u2014 a dusting to an inch at most \u2014 though the region surrounding Poughkeepsie could still see 3 to 6 more inches, according to Longley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>But while the worst of the storm is over, morning commuters in the city \u201ccould still see some slick spots out there,\u201d Longley said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And by 9 or 10 a.m., the precipitation that began as heavy, wet flakes will be reduced to \u201cmainly wandering flurries,\u201d he said. By noon, it will likely taper off entirely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the height of the storm Wednesday night, a handful of New Yorkers took advantage of the first snowfall of the season \u2014 some enjoying snowball fights and another man even walking around with skis and ski poles in the middle of Times Square.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>Temperatures \u2014 sitting in the low-to-mid 20s early Thursday, are expected to rise to 30 degrees by 10 or 11 a.m. and then plummet back down to the high 20s by the afternoon, Longley said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But it will feel \u201cpretty brisk out there\u201d \u2014 more like the single digits \u2014 with the wind chill factored in, he said.\u00a0\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
