At this point,\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em><\/strong> is turning into one of those Hollywood urban myths, the kind of movie that we\u2019ll never see, and may not actually exist. But we\u2019ll have to wait until March 2021 to see if we\u2019ll be disproven, because, yes,\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em> has been delayed again.<\/p>\n

Variety<\/a> reports that Lionsgate has postponed the\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em> release date once again, to March 5, 2021<\/strong>. That\u2019s about a year after it was initially scheduled to be released all the way back on March 1, 2019, before it was pushed to January 22, 2021 to accommodate reshoots. But as you all know, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic happ<\/a>ened, and the oft-delayed\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em> was pushed again.
\nThis is just the latest wrinkle in\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em>\u2018s long, difficult production saga. The dystopian sci-fi film, which stars\u00a0Tom Holland<\/strong> and\u00a0Daisy Ridley<\/strong>, has been in the works for nearly a decade, churning through screenwriters like\u00a0Charlie Kaufman, John Lee Hancock and Gary Spinelli before landing on current screenwriter Christopher Ford<\/strong> (Spider-Man: Homecoming<\/em>), who co-wrote the screenplay with Patric Ness, who wrote the book\u00a0The Knife of Never Letting Go<\/em>, upon which\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em> is based. Doug Liman<\/strong> (The Bourne Identity<\/em>) directs the movie.<\/p>\n

But a revolving door of writers was only the beginning of the problems for\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em>, which carries a production budget of around $100 million and whose first cut (which had been described as \u201cunreleasable\u201c) was so poorly received at test screenings in 2018 that it had to undergo a week of reshoots. But this proved a problem for its big stars, with Ridley filming\u00a0Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker<\/em> at the time and Holland shooting\u00a0Spider-Man: Far From Home<\/em>. Reshoots were finally completed in May 2019 and\u00a0Chaos Walking<\/em> received its January 2021 release date and \u2014 finally \u2014 a trailer.<\/p>\n

But still, a March 2021 release date seems early considering theaters likely won\u2019t be fully operational by then, even with a COVID-19 vaccine being rolled out. So it might be a few more months before we go through this whole song and dance again.<\/p>\n

Chaos Walking<\/em>\u00a0also stars\u00a0Mads Mikkelsen\u00a0<\/strong>(Doctor Strange<\/em>),\u00a0Demi\u00e1n Bichir\u00a0<\/strong>(The Hateful Eight<\/em>),\u00a0Cynthia Erivo\u00a0<\/strong>(Harriet<\/em>),\u00a0Nick Jonas\u00a0<\/strong>(Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle<\/em>),\u00a0Kurt Sutter\u00a0<\/strong>(Sons of Anarchy<\/em>), and\u00a0David Oyelowo\u00a0<\/strong>(Selma<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n

In the not too distant future, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) discovers Viola (Daisy Ridley), a mysterious girl who crash lands on his planet, where all the women have disappeared and the men are afflicted by \u201cthe Noise\u201d \u2013 a force that puts all their thoughts on display. In this dangerous landscape, Viola\u2019s life is threatened \u2013 and as Todd vows to protect her, he will have to discover his own inner power and unlock the planet\u2019s dark secrets.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
