Results will be announced alphabetically by state, and individual representatives and senators may object to those results in writing.<\/p>\n<p>If both a representative and a senator agree to object to a state\u2019s election results, the Senate and the House of Representatives will adjourn to their separate chambers to debate the matter for up to two hours and then hold a vote on whether to reject a slate of electors. <\/p>\n<p>This scenario seems likely to h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en, after several Republican representatives have come forward saying they will challenge results, while Alabama Republican Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2020\/12\/17\/republican-senators-mum-electoral-challenge-despite-mcconnell-plea\/3940115001\/\" class=\"icon none\">has said he might join in<\/a>, despite Sen. Mitch McConnell <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/530327-mcconnell-urges-gop-senators-not-to-object-to-electoral-college-vote\" class=\"icon none\">urging his caucus not to<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other conservatives have suggested that Vice President Mike Pence <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/americanmind.org\/salvo\/what-happens-if-no-one-wins\/\" class=\"icon none\">has the unilateral authority<\/a> to reject slates of electors, based on language in the 12th Amendment. <\/p>\n<p>Foley argued that both approaches are misguided. \u201cCongress\u2019 job isn\u2019t supposed be to retally the popular vote,\u201d he said. Rather, its job is simply to count and confirm election results as certified by the states.<\/p>\n<p>He said that while it\u2019s unlikely Pence will \u201cgo rouge\u201d by asserting his authority to declare results invalid, \u201c[Pence] doesn\u2019t have to go rogue for there to be a complicated situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to see a version of this rival slate scenario,\u201d he added, after unofficial Republican electors in battleground states won by President-elect Biden met to vote for President Donald Trump, against the wishes of those states\u2019 voters and legislatures. \u201cThey are clearly not valid, but the procedural methodology of how they get rejected is not straightforward.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Foley and the other experts at the forum remain confident that Congress will confirm Biden\u2019s victory, but the spectacle of these challenges and other means by which Trump and his allies have fought to overturn the results of the election will be damaging to the integrity of the U.S. political system, they said. <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cSome might say we dodged a bullet,\u201d because the U.S. court system did not buckle under pressure to throw out election results, said Rebecca Green, election law expert at William &amp; Mary Law School. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think we did dodge a bullet, it was a direct hit because millions upon millions of Americans lost faith in our elections, and perilously so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She argued that to restore that faith, Democrats and Republicans must come together to both make it easier to vote and put in place strict safeguards against fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican elections cannot function without both access and integrity,\u201d she said. \u201cDemocrats have to pay a huge amount of attention to safeguards against fraud.
