“#How the Grinch stole a pandemic Christmas<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n He was sure every Who in the town was resistant \/ To keeping their gatherings social<\/a>ly distant. \/ \u201cAnd they\u2019re cooking their turkeys!\u201d he yelped with anxiety. \/ \u201cThe year 2020 has crippled society!\u201d\n <\/div>\n
\n We\u2019ve rewritten a few favourites so they better align with this year\u2019s pandemic holiday season, including \u2018A 2020 holiday song, inspired by Adam Sandler,\u2019 and \u2018A pandemic Christmas Carol.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a bunch.
But the Grinch, who lived just north of there, had a hunch.
See, Christmas would harm them\u2014the whole Christmas season!
Now, you might ask why. Public health was the reason.
It\u2019s true that the Grinch had some holiday blues.
It\u2019s true that he spent too much time watching news<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But I think that the riskiest factor of all
Must have been that his heart was two sizes too small
(A genetic condition most Grinches endure).
You see, Christmas Eve there still wasn\u2019t a cure
For the illness that preyed on Whos young and Whos old,
And the dread the Grinch felt made him shudder with cold.<\/p>\n

He was sure every Who in the town was resistant
To keeping their gatherings socially distant.
\u201cAnd they\u2019re cooking their turkeys!\u201d he yelped with anxiety.
\u201cThe year 2020 has crippled society!\u201d
And as he sat twiddling his fingers of green,
He thought: \u201cThey must wait \u2018til they have a vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n

For tomorrow, he knew, all the Who girls and boys
Would huddle together comparing their toys.
\u201cThey\u2019ll breathe on their grandmothers\u2019 faces! Oh, no!
They\u2019ll breathe on the face of each Who that they know!\u201d
And then\u2014worst of all\u2014with Christmas bells ringing
They\u2019d stand hand-in-hand and they\u2019d get to the singing!<\/p>\n

They\u2019d sing! And they\u2019d sing! And they\u2019d stand in a crowd!
This spreading of germs just could not be allowed!
The Grinch (and his dog) sat in silent frustration.
These Whos must be coaxed into self-isolation.
He figured it out! He came up with a fix!
He came up with a fix so that Whos wouldn\u2019t mix!<\/p>\n

That night, while the Whos lay asnooze in their town,
The Grinch donned his N-95 and marched down.
And he came to the square where they\u2019d sing \u2018round the tree,
And tore off the decor in a dizzying spree!
Then he put up some signage: \u201cNo Christmas This Year!\u201d
(It had big, bolded letters he found quite severe.)<\/p>\n

He took down the bells, and the wreaths from front doors.
He unplugged the lights in front yards, on all fours.
He let out the air from a blow-up Saint Nick.
Then, startlingly, heard at the gate a soft \u201cclick.\u201d
A young Who was watching. She wore a small mask.
The Grinch, caught red-handed, now froze in his task.<\/p>\n

The child kept her distance, two metres away.
\u201cSir, what\u2019s wrong with Santa?\u201d she started to say.
\u201cHe\u2019s\u2026 flat,\u201d said the Grinch, as the Who cocked her head.
\u201cI\u2019ll fix it,\u201d the Grinch said. \u201cNow, go back to bed.\u201d
Strange how the Who followed health regulations\u2026
But the Grinch told himself: You can\u2019t trust her relations.<\/p>\n

So he finished collecting the ornamentation,
Undid their displays, all without reservation.
And when he was done, he made his way home.
He sang \u201cHapp<\/a>y Birthday,\u201d hands soapy with foam.
But on Christmas Day, when he got out of bed,
The Grinch couldn\u2019t get that young Who from his head.<\/p>\n

Yet just when he almost\u2014yes, almost\u2014felt bad,
For cancelling Christmas and making her sad,
The Grinch heard a sound that struck him with fear.
A sound that he really did not want to hear!
He heard the Whos singing! And singing! So loud!
How many germs would be spread in that crowd?<\/p>\n

Had the Whos lost all reason? Had they not seen the sign?
Were they gobbling up misinformation online?
He looked down at Whoville and widened his eyes.
Then he gasped! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
The town square was empty. The tree was still bare.
But voices rang out in the cold winter air.<\/p>\n

The Grinch stood there puzzling, his feet in the snow.
Then he realized! The windows were open, below!
They\u2019d opened their windows! They waved from inside!
At the sound of their music, the Grinch almost cried.
He returned to the square and he tried to atone.
And hung up the baubles and tinsel alone.<\/p>\n

And Christmas still came. But the Grinch had no plans.
He shuffled back home. Then he washed up his hands.
Now the Whos, full of love, safe and sound in their rooms,
Invited the Grinch to their holiday Zooms.
When he opened his inbox, the Grinch gave a start.
For the Whos found a way to warm up his small heart.
