Unilever is ending its boycott of Facebook ads. <\/p>\n

The consumer-products giant in June had suspended all of its spending on the social networking giant due to \u201cthe polarized atmosphere in the US,\u201d saying at the time that running its ads on Facebook \u201cwould not add value to people and society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, however, Unilever has softened its stance, and announced that it will resume advertising on the social network beginning in January. The company said in a blog post that it has seen \u201cencouraging progress\u201d from Facebook, and has had its concerns assuaged by Facebook\u2019s \u201cnew commitments and reporting to monitor progress.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are encouraged by the commitments the platforms are making to build healthier environments for consumers, brands and society,\u201d Unilever EVP Luis Di Como said in a statement, adding that it \u201cwill continue to reassess our position as necessary.\u201d <\/p>\n

Unilever, along with other major names\u00a0like\u00a0North Face,\u00a0Patagonia,\u00a0Verizon\u00a0and\u00a0Ben & Jerry\u2019s, had yanked its ads in support of civil rights groups who hammered Facebook for what they called its failure to do enough about hate speech and misinformation.<\/p>\n

The \u201cStop Hate for Profit\u201d campaign got more than 400 major advertisers to jump ship from Facebook. <\/p>\n

A representative for Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n

Unilever\u2019s decision likely won\u2019t have a large impact on Facebook\u2019s bottom line. The Mark Zuckerberg-led tech giant walloped Wall Street\u2019s expectations in is last earnings report despite the boycott, with revenue growing 22 percent year-over-year to $21.5 billion.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
