(FactSet)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>       During this three-year period, Okta\u2019s stock has gained risen 865%.<\/p>\n<p>There is no denying that the large-cap S&amp;P 500 Index<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.35%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has outperformed the S&amp;P Small Cap 600 Index and the S&amp;P 400 Mid Cap Index<br \/>\n        MID,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/219506813\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.83%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       in recent years. The S&amp;P indexes are weighted by market capitalization. That means the hottest companies included in the small-cap and mid-cap indexes will be moved into the indexes with higher market values, while there is no upper limit on the S&amp;P 500. So the S&amp;P 500 is much more concentrated \u2014 its five largest companies make up 22.7% of the S&amp;P 500, while the five largest small-cap companies account for only 3.4% of the S&amp;P Small Cap 600.<\/p>\n<p>So in a bull market dominated by companies taking the best advantage of technological innovation, it\u2019s no surprise to see the S&amp;P 500 faring best. This holds true if you look back five, 10 or even 15 years (for which the S&amp;P 500 has returned 292%, compared with 263% for the S&amp;P 600 Small Cap Index, according to FactSet).<\/p>\n<p>But it hasn\u2019t always been this way. This year\u2019s total returns for the listed names has ranged from a gain of 160% for Vista Outdoor Inc.<br \/>\n        VSTO,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205852373\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.37%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       to a decline of 66% for Penn Virginia Corp.<br \/>\n        PVAC,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200301793\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.57%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       an oil producer.<\/p>\n<p>Vista Outdoor makes ammunition and other hunting accessories, as well as various sports-protection products and outdoor-cooking equipment. The company has benefited from this product lineup in the pandemic environment. Analysts expect its sales for calendar 2020 to increase by 9%, followed by a 7% increase in 2021. (All sales figures in this article use calendar years; many companies have fiscal years that don\u2019t match the calendar.)<\/p>\n<p>The consensus among analysts is for Penn Virginia\u2019s revenue to drop 31% this year, and by another 8% in 2021, before increasing 16% in 2022.
