Is Joe Biden using a dartboard to fill out his Cabinet? Some of his choices strike us as awful, ideology-wise, but many make no sense at all.<\/p>\n

Take tapp<\/a>ing Ohio Rep. Marcia Fudge to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development: She\u2019s got little experience in housing issues, except as mayor of a small city. In the House, she\u2019s focused on her service on the Agriculture Committee. And just a month ago, she told Politico<\/a>, \u201cWe\u2019re going to have to stop looking at only certain agencies as those that people like me fit in . . .\u00a0 it\u2019s always \u2018we want to put the black person in Labor or HUD.\u2019 \u201d Yet she\u2019s black, at HUD.<\/p>\n

Pete Buttigieg for Transportation? His main experience is as mayor of South Bend, Ind., whose\u00a0transit system consists of 66 buses.<\/p>\n

And why California Attorney General<\/a> Xavier Becerra for Health and Human Services? He\u2019s not a medical professional, though he\u2019s filed more than 100 lawsuits against the Trump administration over the Affordable Care Act \u2014 battling, for example, to force Catholic institutions to offer abortion coverage.<\/p>\n

Michigan ex-Gov. Jennifer Granholm for Energy seems to make sense: She\u2019s known for pushing fossil-fuel reduction \u2014 but the department actually has a lot more to do with nuclear power and weapons.<\/p>\n

Even when you can see a real connection, many won\u2019t like it. Alejandro Mayorkas, the Obama-era head of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, is Biden\u2019s choice for Secretary of Homeland Security. But at CIS, Mayorkas expedited the immigration of Chinese foreigners on three separate occasions as favors for elite Democrats like Sen. Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton\u2019s brother.<\/p>\n

The weirdness goes beyond the Cabinet: Biden\u2019s pick to head up the White House Domestic Policy Council is former UN ambassador Susan Rice, whose career has focused on foreign policy. Plus, she took point for Team Obama in falsely blaming the 2012 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi on a spontaneous response to a viral video \u2014 when the administration had ample evidence it was a carefully plotted terrorist assault.<\/p>\n

And, of course, whatever John Kerry is supposed to do as the special presidential envoy on climate change, the one thing you can be sure of is that he\u2019ll screw it up while claiming victory.<\/p>\n

All in all, these picks can only add to the nation\u2019s worries about just how much Biden\u2019s lost off his mental fastball. It\u2019s going to be a long and confusing four years.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
