\n What would have been sacrilege in New Orleans on Tuesday was a rallying cry for some on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Video posted by Bryn Stole, an investigative reporter for The Advocate and Times-Picayune, shows protesters chanting, \u201cF\u2013k Drew Brees.\u201d The Saints quarterback has been widely criticized for comments saying he would never support NFL players kneeling during the national anthem.<\/p>\n

Brees apologized for his comments on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

Brees, 41, has held hero status in the Bayou, making the Saints a perennial contender and leading them to a Super Bowl championship in 2010. Brees signed a two-year deal this offseason, but it is widely believed this will be his last season in the NFL before joining NBC Sports as an analyst.<\/p>\n

Former Steelers safety and Louisiana native Ryan Clark was among the first to rip Brees for his comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlways knew who he was! Every time y\u2019all came at me and said I couldn\u2019t come home because I didn\u2019t think he was Jesus. Oh well! Keep cheering,\u201d Clark, now an ESPN analyst, wrote on Twitter<\/a>.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
