{"id":137954,"date":"2020-12-20T20:15:58","date_gmt":"2020-12-20T17:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/five-nj-high-schoolers-save-two-young-sledders-who-fell-into-pond\/"},"modified":"2020-12-20T20:15:58","modified_gmt":"2020-12-20T17:15:58","slug":"five-nj-high-schoolers-save-two-young-sledders-who-fell-into-pond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/five-nj-high-schoolers-save-two-young-sledders-who-fell-into-pond\/","title":{"rendered":"#Five NJ high-schoolers save two young sledders who fell into pond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Five NJ high-schoolers save two young sledders who fell into pond<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/12\/middletown-sledding-pond-stephanieirlbeck.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Five high-school freshmen are being hailed as heroes after forming a human chain to save two young kids who fell through ice into a freezing pond while sledding in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Little Olivia Heid, 8, and her 4-year-old brother, RJ, were sledding for the first time when their inner tube hit a patch of ice Thursday, sending them careening into a partially frozen pond at Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands off Sandy Hook Bay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started screaming,\u201d their mom, Stephanie Irlbeck, 35, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.app.com\/story\/news\/local\/red-bank-middletown-area\/2020\/12\/19\/middletown-high-school-north-students-rescue-children-icy-pond\/3979479001\/\">told the Asbury Park Press <\/a>of helplessly watching on. \u201cI couldn\u2019t get down fast enough, they were going really fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her kids\u2019 inflatable sled \u201ckind of floated for a little bit\u201d before sinking through the ice into the pond \u2014 with the nearby high-schoolers racing into action before the youngsters \u201ceven hit the water,\u201d Irlbeck said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Middletown High School North students \u2014 Kiernan Foley, 14 \u2014 im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely leaped into the water, wading out to reach the terrified youngsters, losing both his snow boots in the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t see anyone else be able to do anything, so I just jumped in,\u201d he told Patch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI picked them up, and my friends formed a chain, and we got the boy first and handed him to my friends,\u201d Foley said of RJ, who can\u2019t swim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I got the girl,\u201d the local Boy Scout said.<\/p>\n<p>The other high-schoolers \u2014 Ryan Day, 15, and 14-year-olds Drew Scalice, Joseph Dietrich and Tyler Armagan \u2014 helped get both youngsters to safety and comforted them until their parents were able to race down the hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKiernan, I give him all the credits, he jumped right in there without any hesitation,\u201d Day <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/KidsWhoKareUSA\/videos\/836560400519\">told the Kids Who Kare charity<\/a> in a Facebook video interview after the rescue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us were a great team, we all tagged along and saved those kids,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Irlbeck and her husband, Rich Heid, 35, \u201ccouldn\u2019t get down the hill fast enough,\u201d she <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-jersey\/middletown-nj\/middletown-teens-save-children-who-sledded-frozen-pond\">told Patch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was amazing to me was to see the boys immediately know how to form a human chain. I don\u2019t know how they knew to do that. The whole thing is incredible,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The couple tried to reward the youngsters \u2014 but the teens refused any money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were insanely humble. They didn\u2019t want anything, they just wanted to make sure my kids were OK,\u201d the mom told Patch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey kept saying to my kids, \u2018You\u2019re safe now. You\u2019re going to get a hot chocolate and a warm bath at home.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n<p>The only things the boys did accept were a pair of spare pants and Heid\u2019s boots, to replace Foley\u2019s for the way home.<\/p>\n<p>Irlbeck \u2014 who said she was \u201cshaking\u201d and felt like she was \u201cgoing to throw up the entire ride home\u201d \u2014 later penned a tribute to the boys on a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/MIDDLETOWNNJ\/permalink\/3593407097448134\">Middletown community Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only did they stop a potentially catastrophic situation they didn\u2019t even want anything in return,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThank you. THANK YOU for having such AMAZING KIDS,\u201d she wrote, addressing the teens\u2019 parents.<\/p>\n<p>In the Kids Who Kare video, Foley insisted that he and his buddies were just \u201cat the right place and the right time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope anyone else would do the exact same thing that we did,\u201d Scalice said in the video.<\/p>\n<p>Foley\u2019s dad, Jason Foley, told Patch that he is proud of his son. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe and his friends are just like that,\u201d he said. \u201cJust good, all-American kids.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
