Some weather conditions\u2014fog, hail, and sandstorms\u2014are locked behind the story.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Wild_Area\"><\/span>The Wild Area<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Wild Area in <em>Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Shield\u2019s<\/em> Galar Region is an entirely new experience for all Pok\u00e9mon players; it is the\u00a0first truly open-world section of the Pok\u00e9mon <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You will encounter wild Pok\u00e9mon on the field in the Wild Areas. However, the Pok\u00e9mon you encounter will vary, depending on your location in the Wild Area as well as the weather. If it\u2019s raining, for example, more Water-type Pok\u00e9mon will appear.<\/p>\n<p>After you\u2019ve progressed far enough in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>, you can unlock additional weather conditions, such as fog, snowstorms, and sandstorms in the Wild Area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-701501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/xwild-area-rain.png.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+ws+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.Bb2SYAv8Rf.jpg\" alt=\"Pok\u00e9mon sword and shield wild area \" width=\"650\" height=\"366\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In order for snowstorms and sandstorms to appear, you must first beat three gym challenges and reach the city of Hammerlocke in <em>Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Shield<\/em>. To force the appearance of foggy weather conditions, you must first complete the main story and become the Pok\u00e9mon Champion.<\/p>\n<p>Older Pok\u00e9mon games have used time of day or season to determine different Pok\u00e9mon encounters. <em>Pok\u00e9mon Sword &amp; Shield<\/em>, however, utilizes the weather. While the main routes of the game are typically stuck to specific weather and feature no variance, the Wild Area has a continually- shifting weather pattern.<\/p>\n<p>Every day at midnight on your Nintendo Switch\u2019s Clock System, the weather in each area of the Wild Area will change, and there are certain Pok\u00e9mon that will only appear under certain weather conditions. However, on the first day of each month, every area in the Wild Area will have the exact same weather, and on these days you\u2019ll know what to expect:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Normal: May 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Cloudy: March 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Raining: Oct. 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Thunderstorms: Nov. 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Snow: Dec. 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Hail: Feb. 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Sunny: July 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Sandstorm: April 1, 2020<\/li>\n<li>Fog: June 1, 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The weather doesn\u2019t only affect Pok\u00e9mon spawns, it also affects battle conditions, and there are nine different weather effects to note: normal, overcast, raining, thunderstorms, snowing, snowstorms, intense sun, sandstorms, and fog.<\/p>\n<p>To check the current weather in the Wild Area, load your game and press \u201cY\u201d on your right Joy-Con controller to pull up your main menu. From there, select the Town Map, and toggle weather conditions on and off with your map open by pressing \u201c+\u201d on your right Joy-Con controller.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-701552\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/xpokemon-sword-and-shield-weather-map.png.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+ws+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.vOOqPlx0B0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"355\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Catching_Pokemon_with_Special_Weather_Conditions\"><\/span>Catching Pok\u00e9mon with Special Weather Conditions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Just like some Pok\u00e9mon require trades to evolve, some Pok\u00e9mon require certain weather conditions in order to appear to the player in-game. Certain Pok\u00e9mon also require specific weather conditions to evolve. For example, the Pok\u00e9mon Eevee has a total of eight different possible evolutions, but two, in particular, require day and night conditions to evolve.<\/p>\n<p>During the daytime in the Wild Area, if an Eevee is in your Pok\u00e9mon party and has enough friendship points, upon leveling it will evolve into an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.serebii.net\/pokedex-swsh\/espeon\/\">Espeon<\/a>. However, if that same Eevee were to increase by one level in the evening, it would evolve into an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.serebii.net\/pokedex-swsh\/umbreon\/\">Umbreon<\/a>\u2014two completely different Pok\u00e9mon types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Trade Pok\u00e9mon in &#8216;Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Shield&#8217;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is just one example, as there are several other evolutions that require certain weather or environmental conditions to evolve in the Wild Area. For example, Ralts, a Pok\u00e9mon whose evolutions are popular in competitive play, can only be caught under foggy conditions in the Wild Area in <em>Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Shield<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>To see a complete list of Pok\u00e9mon that require certain weather conditions to appear, check the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.serebii.net\/swordshield\/weather.shtml\">Serebii wiki<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Changing_the_Weather_in_the_Wild_Area\"><\/span>Changing the Weather in the Wild Area<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>First and foremost, you\u2019ll want to completely close\u00a0any launched game\u00a0on your Nintendo Switch.
