A post on the platform \u201csaid nothing more than what Biden\u2019s chosen running mate, Kamala Harris, has herself said\u201d \u2014 namely, that the \u201994 law\u00a0\u201ccontributed to the mass incarceration of Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly and African Americans specifically.\u201d Indeed, many \u201cmedia outlets, criminal-justice experts and politicians from both parties\u201d have said the same. Yet Instagram plastered a \u201cFalse\u201d label on the post, saying it had \u201cno basis in fact.\u201d A tech giant declaring someone \u201ca disseminator of disinformation for voicing long-standing and well-documented criticisms of\u201d Biden is a scary preview of \u201ca future in which unseen tech overlords police our discourse by unilaterally arbitrating truth and falsity, decree what are permissible and impermissible ideas and rigidly impose the boundaries of acceptable debate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Small-biz owner: Are We Just Collateral?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At The Federalist, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/12\/18\/small-businesses-like-mine-didnt-cause-covid-but-governments-are-making-us-pay-for-it\/\">small-business owner John Romano laments<\/a> what COVID-19 has wrought for the boutique <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>\u00a0company he runs with his wife: \u201cOur revenue is down more than 99 percent. We\u2019ve had a total of two clients since March \u2014 a father and daughter who were receiving medical treatment in Paris.\u201d Will their business survive? \u201cThe worry is that the government is implicitly saying to us, and a million other small businesses, that we\u2019re simply collateral damage of the pandemic.\u201d Sure, there has been some aid, but after 10 months of absolutely no revenue, the government help is insufficient. \u201cWashington needs to give small businesses a genuine, real chance to survive. Big business may do the heavy lifting, but we make up 45 percent of America\u2019s GDP. Small business is the lifeblood of this economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: Don\u2019t Normalize Impeachment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Friday marked a year since the House voted to impeach President Trump in \u201cthe only presidential impeachment that didn\u2019t bother to allege an actual crime,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/12\/historys-weakest-impeachment-the-trump-case-one-year-later\/#slide-1\">writes Fred Lucas at National Review<\/a>. Of the three presidential impeachments in US history, Trump\u2019s \u201cstands out for lowering the bar,\u201d since \u201cthe House accused Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress \u2014 neither actual crimes and both <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>licable to almost any president.\u201d If such an arbitrary standard is normalized, it will desensitize \u201cthe public to a legitimately impeachable offense by a future president.\u201d Some future chief executive may well need to be impeached, and the risk is that Dems\u2019 \u201cpetty impeachment\u201d will prevent that. Let that \u201cserve as a cautionary tale to Republican leadership during the upcoming Biden administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conservatives: Roberts\u2019 Self-Defeating Quest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a slew of important cases before the Supreme Court, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/outlook\/john-roberts-self-defeating-attempt-to-make-the-court-appear-nonpolitical\/2020\/12\/17\/d3d1df5a-3fd5-11eb-9453-fc36ba051781_story.html\">observe Adrian Vermeule and Varad Mehta at The Washington Post<\/a>, Chief Justice John Roberts \u201chas engaged in strategic maneuvering: His goal appears to be to preserve what he takes to be the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, by disproving any suspicion that the justices vote ideologically or otherwise \u00adengage in political behavior.\u201d The problem: \u201cBecause it is so clear that he is crafting opinions with this end in mind, the chief justice defeats his own aims.\u201d His effective rewriting of the ObamaCare law in 2012 was the most notorious example.
