\n Major election snafus shortchanged democracy in New York City on Tuesday when poll workers failed to distribute the proper ballots \u2014 preventing some voters from taking part in both the Democratic presidential primary and local races.<\/p>\n

The problem was app<\/a>arently so widespread that the Board of Elections tweeted out a warning shortly before noon that said, \u201cIn the Democratic primary, voters may have a 2 page ballot!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease check http:\/\/nyc.pollsitelocator.com to view your sample ballot,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n

In Queens, where Democratic Assemblyman Ron Kim is being challenged by NYPD Sgt. Steven Lee, a poll worker at Junior High School 189 in Flushing said some voters only got one ballot.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were two ballots, we didn\u2019t know that. Early this morning, we just gave one ballot. So some people didn\u2019t get two,\u201d the worker said. \u201cWe found an hour into it. We didn\u2019t get training because of the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The worker\u2019s disturbing revelations were cut short by a BOE supervisor, Stella Lu, who insisted everything was fine. \u201cThere was just confusion because we are short people. We have half the staff today,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people who had this issue actually got the ballot. It was only because people had to wait a little bit longer.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Twitter<\/a>, Isiah James \u2014 who is challenging US Rep. Yvette Clark (D-Brooklyn) \u2014 lashed out at the BOE and included a screenshot of a message that said voters were being given \u201cmisprinted ballots that do not have the congressional race on them at PS 22 in Brooklyn.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c@BOENYC y\u2019all need to fix this ASAP! This is not acceptable,\u201d James wrote. \u201cYou\u2019ve had months to get this right. Why are voters messaging about this total screw up on your part.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kenneth Lee, a candidate in next year\u2019s race to succeed outgoing city Councilman Mathieu Eugene (D-Brooklyn), tweeted an unconfirmed report there were no longer ballots available at the polling place at the High School for Service & Learning at Erasmus in Flatbush.<\/p>\n

Kristen Clarke of the National Lawyers\u2019 Committee for Civil Rights Under Law said her organization received \u201creports that voters only received one, not two ballots.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat seems to be a training issue with polling workers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Common Cause New York also said that some voters \u201creceived incomplete ballots,\u201d with Executive Director Susan Lerner saying it\u2019s among the issues the group would \u201caggressively\u201d address with election officials.<\/p>\n

The BOE didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
