Illumination Entertainment\u2019s Sing 2<\/strong><\/em>, the sequel to the company\u2019s 2016 animated hit musical, has added a trio of one-named singers to its roster.<\/p>\n

Halsey<\/strong>, Pharrell<\/strong>, and Bono<\/strong> have joined the Sing 2<\/em> cast, as have\u00a0Bobby Cannavale<\/strong> (Master of None<\/em>, Ant-Man<\/em>), Letitia Wright<\/strong> (Black Panther<\/em>, Mangrove<\/em>), Eric Andre<\/strong> (The Eric Andre Show<\/em>, Man Seeking Woman<\/em>), and Chelsea Peretti<\/strong> (Brooklyn Nine-Nine<\/em>, Game<\/a> Night<\/em>).
<\/span><\/p>\n

Bono will play a rock star lion named Clay Calloway who has lost his roar. Pharrell is playing an ice cream truck-driving elephant named Alfonso, and Halsey will play Porsche, the entitled teenaged wolf daughter of Cannavale\u2019s wolf mogul character, Jimmy Crystal.
\nThis new swath of actors will join returning cast members\u00a0Matthew McConaughey<\/strong>\u00a0as theater owning koala Buster Moon,\u00a0Reese Witherspoon\u00a0<\/strong>as the pig singer Rosita, Scarlett Johansson\u00a0<\/strong>as a punk rock porcupine named Ash, Taron Egerton<\/strong> as Johnny the gorilla, Tori Kelly<\/strong> as talented elephant Meena, and Nick Kroll<\/strong> as a pig named Gunter.<\/p>\n

Garth Jennings<\/strong> is returning to direct, which was part of the reason U2 singer Bono signed on to app<\/a>ear in this sequel. \u201cGarth is a truly great storyteller at whatever age you\u2019re in his thrall,\u201d Bono said to\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>. \u201cA courageous one who actually chooses to work with children and animals! I first saw\u00a0Son of Rambow<\/em>\u00a0before it came out at Sundance and was immedia<\/a>tely a fan of his. [And] the first\u00a0Sing<\/em>\u00a0was such a treat. Next holiday season, the new chapter in Illumination\u2019s smash animated franchise returns with big dreams and spectacular hit songs as can-do koala Buster Moon and his all-star cast of animal performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet\u2026in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There\u2019s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world\u2019s most reclusive rock star\u2014played by legendary music icon Bono, making his animated film debut\u2014to join them.<\/em><\/p>\n

Buster (Oscar\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0winner Matthew McConaughey) and his cast have turned the New Moon Theater into a local hit, but Buster has his eyes on a bigger prize: Debuting a new show at the Crystal Tower Theater in glamorous Redshore City.<\/em><\/p>\n

But with no connections, Buster and his cast\u2014including harried mother pig Rosita (Oscar\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0winner Reese Witherspoon), rocker porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johansson), earnest gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), shy elephant Meena (Tori Kelly) and, of course, porcine provocateur extraordinaire Gunter (Nick Kroll)\u2014have to sneak their way into the world-famous Crystal Entertainment offices, run by a ruthless mogul wolf named Jimmy Crystal (Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale).<\/em><\/p>\n

In a desperate attempt to get Mr. Crystal\u2019s attention,\u00a0Gunter spontaneously pitches an outrageous idea that\u00a0Buster quickly runs with, promising\u00a0that their new show will star lion rock legend Clay Calloway (Bono). Problem is, Buster has never met Clay, an artist who shut himself away from the world more than a decade ago after the loss of his wife and hasn\u2019t been seen since.<\/em><\/p>\n

As Gunter helps Buster dream up an out-of-this-world theatrical masterpiece, and the pressure (and sinister threats) from Mr. Crystal mount, Buster embarks on a quest to find Clay and persuade him to return to the stage. What begins as Buster\u2019s dream of big-time success becomes an emotional reminder of the power of music to heal even the most broken heart.<\/em><\/p>\n
