Peter Jackson got it back. <\/p>\n

The \u201cLord of the Rings\u201d director has been sifting through 56 hours of previously unseen footage of The Beatles rehearsing and horsing around from their final months playing together. Those moments led up to their infamous concert on the rooftop of App<\/a>le Corps headquarters on Savile Row in January of 1969. <\/p>\n

On the heels\u00a0of the 40th anniversary of John Lennon\u2019s assassination, Jackson is giving fans a \u201csneaky preview,\u201d as he called it, to the film \u201cThe Beatles: Get Back.\u201d <\/p>\n

The unearthed footage was salvaged from Michael Lindsay-Hogg\u2019s long lost \u201cLet It Be,\u201d a 1970 television documentary charting the squabbles and tension in the lead-up to the band\u2019s final album and concert, to lukewarm reception. <\/p>\n

Rumor has it band members\u00a0Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr blocked the release of the doc, complaining that it featured frontman John Lennon, and his wife Yoko Ono too prominently.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But Jackson\u2019s installment in the band\u2019s final chapter is expected to be less contentious.\u00a0The 59-year-old is currently in the process of editing in New Zealand.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis film was due to be finished round about now,\u201d said Jackson, who was forced to push back production due to COVID-19. He calls the footage \u201cgreat stuff\u201d and presents fans with a montage to get a \u201csense of the spirit\u201d and the \u201cvibe and the energy that the film\u2019s going to have.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fans are treated to about four minutes of good-natured footage of the band. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd now, your host for this evening, the Bottles,\u201d jokes a long-haired John Lennon in one cut. In another, the British bandmates read aloud from a news<\/a>paper column about George Harrison facing jail time in France. McCartney\u2019s wife Linda Eastman and daughter\u00a0Mary, plus Yoko Ono, and fashionable sets of groupies, producers and executives feature as the rockstars play.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fast-paced supercut serves as prelude to the film that Jackson promises out sometime in 2021. Official trailers will be out next year too. For now, fans will have to live Jackson\u2019s \u201cmontage of moments.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully it will put a smile on your face in these rather bleak times that we\u2019re in.\u201d\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
